BIOS Upgrade for the C3500

I visited the Averatec website today and noticed that a BIOS upgrade was available for the C3500. This file was update on 06/09/05.

As per the Averatec website it states "This BIOS is not a critical update, but may solve various issues with usage". Nothing like a blanket statement, especially where some users are experiencing issues that could possibly be attributed to the BIOS. However, some further explanation of the BIOS fix would have been quite helpful, since most major computer corporation’s state at least what was addressed and fixed.

Once I downloaded the "patch" I snooped around the new BIOS and the only attributable difference that I could notice is that the user now has the ability to switch from either 32MB shared video memory to 64MB, everything else looks as though it stayed the same.

Anyways, for those of you that are experiencing problems, downloading the BIOS update may cure some of your problems.

Best of Luck!

Still no USB or PCMCIA in linux 2.6

Unfortunately, I still cannot get the USB or PCMCIA hardware working with this BIOS under kernel 2.6. Has anyone got this working with newer BIOSes than 0.1?

I think I will be able to get USB and PCMCIA to work under the new kernel. It will require the DSDT patch for the kernel, w/ a kernel recompile. I'll post more when I really figure out all the issues. Many many laptops ship with a buggy DSDT.. this one seems to cause more problems than most. I've run into the same problem on my Ferrari 4005WLMi. Hadda debug it just to get the battery status. I'll not be able to work on it much till I get a new HD for the C3500 though.. cheap arse drives that ship w/ them.. this one died after 8 months..

Re: BIOS Upgrade for the C3500

I also visited the Averatec site recently and downloaded the new version of BIOS (1.3) for my Averatec C3500. I now have a huge problem that I need help with. It simply will not start up. When I push the on button, it starts up and then shuts down after +- 5 seconds. Can any one offer me any advice on how to overcome this? I believe I was running version 1.0 before.

Re: BIOS Upgrade for the C3500

See if this helps:

Disconnect the power adapter from the C3500.
Remove the Battery from the C3500.
Press and hold the power button on the C3500 for 5 seconds.
Insert the battery ONLY.
Try to power up the C3500.

If this fails, remove the battery and apply the power adapter only. Then try to power up the C3500.

If that fails, try with both Battery and Power adapter.

At any rate, if/when it powers on, you should be able to resume normal battery / power adapter operation.
