| What is wrong with Averatec's support? My C3500 has a problem, a big problem. When you turn it on it beeps reboots and resets the bios back to the defualts so any settings i have made to the bios are gone the time is all screwed up and annoys the hell out of me. Back in feb. i shipped my notebook out to averatec and a week later it came back. i turn it on and boom same freakin problem. I call support and they go through all the crap i went throught the first time, have you installed software? have your tired to do a system restore? i tell them there is no OS on it, i took it out of the box and turned it on and it did the same thing. The send me a call tag and i ship it back. well guess what after 3 weeks i get it back, plug it in and boom same freakin problem! Anyone who turns on this notebook will see the problem. Tech support says all they can do is send another call tag. WTF! why can they not fix this problem! up until now i love this notebook now i hate it! oh on the upside any digitaziers put out by uslogic will work with the notebook, i ordered one a few months back and did get a chance to test it with the notebook yesterday. but it sucks i now have to send this back and still be with out a notebook. |

the bios resetting self can only be resloved by either trying to reflash it, which i couldnt get averatec to send me the flash so i could try it. or send it to them and let them fix it. if you do that let me know and i will give you my rma number so they can refrence that so maybe it doest take them as long to fix it as they did mine. you can email me randy at e-securis.com to get the rma to refrence. if it is the linux thing no clue working on a work around, it seems to be a possible harware conflict problem with ISOLinux but not 100% sure yet. |

| I, too am experiencing the problems with the bios. The date/time remain intact, however all of the settings in the bios are reset to their factory defaults every time I power-cycle the laptop! This is annoying as hell! I sent mine back to Averatec on 4/27/05. They sent it back on 5/3/05. Tech support told me that they supposedly replaced the motherboard. (I doubt it, cause it does the exact same thing every time you boot it!) BEEP! BEEP! WARNING - CMOS FAILURE - RUN SCU Then, everything is reset to the factory defaults. I'm beginning to think that this is the BIOS itself, not a hardware issue. It's got TH11v1.0 dated 10/11/04. Does anyone one else have this problem? |

| Re: Averatec Support I have had a continuous struggle, since about the time of the last postings on this thread with security in general on my Averatec C3500. It was only just last night that I first saw this CMOS failure message. For some weeks I *had* been noticing that the boot password would disappear, and when I went into the SCU (F2 at startup) all the settings would have been changed. I got brand new setup disks from Averatec in April of 2006, which included Windows XP Pro, and I would assume, the latest version of the BIOS. Nevertheless, I have used all manner of different disk clearing products, flashed the BIOS, and re-installed the manufacturer's operating system. I would invite anyone who is experiencing this CMOS failure issue to try to repave their system, choose NOT to have automatic updates, and then go directly to the MS update site to get updates manually. I will bet my grocery money that you will find, if you examine the security certificate for the ActiveX control for updates (which of course no one ever does...) that you will find an expired date on that security certificate. Cheers, Sue |
