Averatec C3500 with gps receiver and software

I'm interested in purchasing a Averatec C3500 to use in my car. I would like to attach a gps receiver and software to the Averatec C3500 and use it with the tablet (touchscreen) mode of the computer. I would appreciate any feedback anyone has to this idea. Thanks

It's not a touchscreen. The tablet will not work with your finger, you have to use the pen. This is an advantage for Tablet PC because it eliminates problems from your hand resting on the screen.

For a car computer with GPS and navigation and MP3s or whatever, I'd recommend looking into ELO (that's a company name) touchscreens coupled with a small Via-based computer or an integrated Mini-ITX board. That'd probably end up cheaper and smaller, plus separate the computer from the display making that part easier to mount.

run the gps software and fold the screen

Thanks for touch screen advice. I currently don't have a gps system in the car. I saw portable one's that can be mounted on the dashboard that are available for between $900 and $1200. The screen size on the portables are all too small to my liking. I am in the market for a laptop anyway. I have a space, on top of a console that go between the two front seats, where I can comfortably put a 12' laptop. There are gps receivers and software that can be loaded on a laptop (Microsoft's Streets and Trips, 2005) to make the laptop function as a gps system when the software is running. So, I was thinking if I could use Averatec 3500 I would be able to run the gps software, fold the screen over to the tablet sytle, and set the display in the spot in the car that I described earlier. I think it would be a nice fit, look good, and be very useful with it's larger screen (if daylight viewing is good with the Averatec 3500). And, when I'm not using it in the car, I can use it as a regular laptop/tablet. Please give advice to this idea. Thanks.

IMHO, day light viewing on this scree is pretty poor, it is difficult to use outdoors on a sunny day.

I'm actually looking into using my Averatec for GPS, but with a touch screen connected to it on the dashboard. I will build a small "dock" for the C3500 in the trunk, to connect it to the monitor/touchscreen, and anything else will be handled using Bluetooth. DeLorme makes a Bluetooth GPS, and there is a nice Bluetooth foldable keyboard and portable mouse I might grab as well. The nicest part is that I can also use it as an MP3 player and even a DVD player if I wanted (I don't .. driving takes enough attention).

How is display viewing of the Averatec 3500 inside a car ?

How is the display viewing of the Averatec 3500 inside a car during daytime as well as nighttime? Also, is the sound from the internal speaker good enough to listen to from a dvd movie? Thanks.
