Antenna Jack?

Has anyone been able to figure out a way to either attach an antenna or somehow increase the wireless range?

I've opened up the case and looked at the wireless card, but I'm afraid to mess with any of it because I don't know what's what on the card. Too bad there's no way to directly attach an antenna to the outside.

I wonder if you could convert the lock hole to an antenna jack? I never use it anyway...

Heh, you sound like a war driver to me. anyway just puchase a wireless card and modify it. you can learn how to modify the card here.

I don't think you meant this but there are extensions available for the Access Point. For example, Netgear extensions are available.

Unhappy

Yes, I am a wardriver, but I'm a friendly one.

I don't think you guys understood what I meant. Or maybe you didn't realize that I was talking about the Averatec C3500. And it's my fault.

The Averatec C3500 has a built-in wireless card, and I want to increase the range I can get with my laptop so I can get wireless in more places. But the C3500 doesn't have an antenna output. And I don't want to buy another wireless card, that's just overkill.

Yes, I figured you wanted to only focus on the wireless card but the best place to start is really with the access point.

However, try Hyperlinktech.com because they have many products. Check them out and let us know what they say too.

The U.FL. connector is the correct type to attach to mini-PCI cards. Here are some 20-centimeter cable assemblies with different connectors on the other end, from the site you linked: http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/cab...connection=UFL

The only problem is figuring out where to run the cable so that you can use it without yanking on the delicate U.FL. connector. As mentioned above, maybe try to snake it over to the Kensington lock slot. According to the Amphenol SMA (SubMiniature A) specifications, the female bulkhead connector should have a barrel diameter of no more than 0.260 inches. The Kensington lock slot is about 1/8th inch across, so you could fit the bulkhead into that location by drilling out the slot only 1/16th on either side.

Needless to say, this would require full disassembly and Averatec would laugh in your face if you tried to send it back on warranty. But hey, in less than a year we won't have to worry about that. I'll probably add the jack then, as well as a more accessible power button.
