HELP! The mouse touch pad is messed up...

I bought my Averatec C3500 a few weeks ago. I have not come across any problems until now. Earlier today, I noticed that the mouse pad wasn't keeping up. It now takes me a half hour to guide the mouse across the screen to get on the internet. But when I use the pen, everything works perfect.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I just tried to install an updated driver to no avial...
But when I tried to roll back the driver the touchpad quality improved. However, it doesn't seem to work as good as it just to.

Have you installed any other software just before the slowdown? Did you download anything from the internet? Any powertoys, etc? Check the task list and see if there is a clue there.

I just removed the Alps drivers and left the touchpad as a generic PS/2 device. No stupid active zones or whatever, and scroll areas. Until they physically delineate the scroll areas with a groove or ridge, I won't use them...it reduces the useful pointing surface a lot. And if I'm not using any of those features, the Alps drivers are just a lot of extra fluff that has to sit in memory. Maybe I miss edge-coasting while dragging something from one side of the screen to the other, but oh well.

It seems that after I shut it down for the day that it fixed itself. Even though I restarted the computer several times when I tried to fix it by re-installing the drivers.

- By the way, I think that that the scroll area features are genius. I use them every time I need to go on the internet or to scroll through a text editor or what not. It really saves a lot of time as opposed to moving the mouse over to the side of the screen and using the arrows over there.

Glad it is working now. Yes, sometimes it is important to completely power off a notebook / Tablet PC and start from a "cold" start.

Mine Went Crazy All Over

I was so pleased with what I'd accomplished in setting up Blocco, my C3500 since it arrived on 02-08, that I was stunned when the touchpad went berserk earlier today. I prayed that it was not a hardware problem but some other weird phenomenon. The keyboard still worked, and the pen still worked, so I could hobble around all right.

Before that, I had trouble installing LapLink Gold 12 and had to uninstall it. (It installed fine on a Dell Inspiron that still has Windows XP Pro SP1, but it was sick on the C3500 with Windows XP SP2 and all of the updates that Windows Update would give me).

Fortunately, I did a restore point after all of the Windows updating yesterday, and reverting to that restore point cured the touchpad problems.

I also run with splash-screen disabled and memory testing always on. I saw my first memory error when I powered up to try the restore point. A power-off and power-up got past it, but I wonder if I am seeing hardware transients that led to something being corrupted. Sigh.
