Cool Awaiting my C3500...

Having built all of my home computers myself, this will be my first NEW purhase of a computer.

Saw an ad for a Tablet a few months ago (on an airplane somewhere) and thought not if, but when I buy a laptop this would be the type I'd choose. I'm a Designer by trade (Aerospace & Residential Construction) and a returning student, so I figured this would be an ideal tool.

Sales Rep is telling me he's expecting a shipment of C3500's in tomorrow but we'll see. I start class on Wednesday (probably be the oldest at 31) and would like to have it before then but it doesn't look good.

In the meantime, I'll be reading your posts, tips, tricks, etc. Nice to meet ya.

I am used to building computers out to spec too. It's kinda tough to switch over to buying pre-built :) I sympathize. I'd make the exception for Tablet PCs only. lol

It's fantastic that you're getting a Tablet PC. As a returning student, you'll want to check out Microsoft OneNote, Agilix GoBinder, the dictionary, and more. You can find trials of these apps and utilities at TabletPCPost.com.

I called and they said they are expecting the backordered machines today, but it could be tomorrow. Hoping to get it by the end of the week.

Any word on the 3500?

Any word on your 3500 purchase yet? I tried contacting the sales guy last week and he didn't reply. Going to call tomorrow and raise some hell.

Truth is that with the hurricane I was kinda hoping it wouldn't show up yet. However, I was going to contact them tomorrow as well to find out what's up.

Cancelled the direct order. Ordered from Staples. The better price doens't hurt and they say it will be shipped by Friday.

Yikes, at the new price these things must be going like hotcakes. On Sunday the expected delivery time was 1 business day, by the middle of Monday it was up to 2 days, and when I ordered mine today it was bumped up to 4 days (pushing it all the way to next Monday). I hope this shows the other tablet manufacturers that the guy selling at the normal laptop pricepoint is the one who will get the sales.

Well, maybe another part of the Averatec's low cost is using second-tier LCDs. Looking at it this way: if mine has a dead pixel, would I pay another $150 for a screen that is .00000127% better? No. Heck, I use only Trinitron monitors and the two thin horizontal lines never bother me.

Yeah, to tell the truth I never really considered returning it for the one pixel. I really only noticed it when a movie was playing .. otherwise I really have to look for it.

Now for my next thing. I installed SP2 and that seemed to go well. However, I don't see a way to pop up the TIP except by hitting the icon on the start menu. When the pen is NOT near the screen I see an icon that looks like it would pop it up, but if I move the pen near the screen, it goes away (as weird as that sounds). Any suggestions?

That is a currently known problem with SP2 and the C3500. Averatec and Microsoft are both aware of the problem and Microsoft supposedly will release a fix.
