| Anyone having... problems with the input panel on SP 2? In IE for example, the box will open, but then close after only a few letters. This refers to theInput panel that appears when a text box is selected. |

| TIP settings Check some of your TIP settings and make sure the timing isn't set to automatic insert text.

| Well, i checked the settings, and the auto text insertion is all off....any other ideas? The box hovers, and when i try to click it with the pen, it disappears...really frustrating. Last edited by Clamchowder; 08-23-2004 at 12:30 AM.. |

If I dock the TIP, it works fine. The problem is that with the SP2 hovering icon, I can't use the feature because when I click on the hovering icon with the pen the icon disappears. Now, I can click the hovering icon with the mousepad, and the TIP opens midscreen, but then when i go to write text the TIP closes after maybe 2 letters. INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING!! I can click the regular TIP icon in the quicklaunch as in SP1, but this defeats the purpose of the hover-icon in SP2. -Frustrated Clambake |

| OK. Let's go over the pen settings for hover. You can adjust this in pen settings. Adjust the spacial tolerance. Tablet and Pen Settings --> Pen Option Tab --> Double Click on Point/Hover --> adjust slider Use the picture to help you adjust it. Maybe recalibrate your pen too.

| I've been thinking about this and wonder if you should do a reinstall of the service pack 2. Maybe something went wrong and a simple reinstall will do the trick. If the previous post of mine (settings of spacial) doesn't work then go for a reinstall and let us know if that helps. One last question, though. You wouldn't happen to see if a difference in TIP behavior if you are hooked to AC versus battery and/or the number of applications open?

| LPH, so far no luck. I've done just about all I can imagine, reading through the forums, talking with MS.... And I've discovered a new twist. If I click on the hovering icon with the mouse, the TIP opens. And if I use the mouse to draw handwriting, it's recognized, and all goes just fine. So, I'm certain now that it's the stylus...but Averatec, nor I have any idea what to do to solve it. Tried to reinstall stylus drivers, didn't work. |

What happens when you are in safe mode? What happens when you change video modes? What happens when you hook up an external monitor?

| Okay...In safe mode, I can't even get the TIP to open, the floating icon, nor the regular icon in the quicklaunch appear. What do you mean by switching video modes? Tried hooking up to another monitor, still doesn't work, but made another discovery. If click on the floating icon, and open the TIP, and then scribble maybe one letter with the mouse, and THEN put the stylus to the screen and write, everything goes fine. It's just that tapping on the icon with the stylus makes the icon disappear. |

| tabtip.exe While you are working on a few items, make sure that you check the windows task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and see if tabtip.exe is a process running.

| I Also Had the Same Behavior I don't have a solution to offer but when I upgeaded to SP2, I had this exact behavior as well. Whenever a text input field had focus, an icon for the input panel would appear. The problem was, as soon as the pen got close, the icon would go away. I tried changing the behavior of the input panel between having to click on the icon or just having the pen hover over the icon to bring up the panel but both had the same behavior. If I was quick I could sneek up on the icon and tap on it before it disappeared but usually not. I never did get that resolved because I soon returned the unit to Costco for what I had assumed were unrelated problems. I had a problem with the digitizer working at all. Sometimes when I booted the pen worked and sometimes it didn't. I noticed a error logged in the system log file when it did not come up properly and I had assummed it was a driver problem. But no one else has reported such problems so maybe it was a hardware problem with the digitizer. I wish I had a solution to the SP2 input panel problem. But I did want to confirm that you are not the only person that has seen this. Cheers, duvell |
