Costco has them = $1279

Costco has them = $1279
Call CostCo and ask. They didnt even have them on display.

I bought one and it is really nice.

Screen is a little smaller than the Toshiba and sound isnt all that great but hey! Its $1000 cheaper, has a better hard drive, etc.

Hard drive

Have you done any benchmarks? Is the hard drive responding faster than other Tablet PC models?

Benchmark programs?

What (free) benchmark programs would you recommend to be run on this new machine?

So far the machine seems great for a student. Only a couple complaints. The stylus doesnt seem to exactly touch the pointer, it is a little off but not too bad. I was thinking one of those Cross stylus pens might make this tablet more responsive.

The battery life, so far, isnt that great. I havent completely drained the battery and recharged for a complete test.

This machine has some MINOR issues such as heat, but overall I think it is a pretty good deal for $1279. You get a pretty good PC _AND_ a tablet pc too.

Benchmarks

Benchmarks
I'd keep it really simple. Lora has compiled different times for startup, launching an application, hibernation, reboot, etc. We are also interested in battery life too. Any real world benchmark :whistling

For heat, try a pad. Linuxmon just posted a nice thread on the Chill mat. It's a definite item to add to my list of things to buy.

I prefer using a stopwatch to benchmarking tests because everyone has a concept of time and it is more "real world". It saves people from having to look up and cross reference meanings too.

Take times with AC power & with battery power. They will be different :)

Here's an example from the Toshiba Portege M200:

AC Power Connected:
Processor speed 1.5GHz

Power On to login screen - 22 sec
Power On including logon - 33 sec
Turn off - 17 sec

Restart to login screen - 44 sec
Restart including logon - 56 sec

Enter Standby - 4 sec
Resume Standby - 6 sec

Time to hibernate - 15 sec
Time to wake up from hibernate - 11 sec

Here are a few application open times:

Journal first load - 5 sec
Jounal repeat loads - 3 sec
OneNote first load - 5 sec
OneNote repeat loads - 3.5 sec
Solitaire - 1 sec

Battery as primary power source:
Processor speed reported as 598MHz

Power On to login screen - 27 sec
Power On including logon - 46 sec
Turn off - 22 sec

Restart to login screen - 50 sec
Restart including logon - 1 min

Enter Standby - 4 sec
Resume Standby - 6 sec

Time to hibernate - 35 sec
Time to wake up from hibernate - 11 sec

Journal first load - 5 sec
Jounal repeat loads - 3.5 - 4 sec
OneNote first load - 5 sec
OneNote repeat loads - 4 sec
Solitaire - 1 sec

Also, you'd need to list what applications load on start-up because that impacts boot time. (virus scanner, windows messenger, cd-rw burning app, etc)

Benchmarks

Here are some good benchmarking applications:

3dmark01
PCmark04

The links take you to the download page, they are both free and around 30mb each. I would really like to see the 3dmark01 score you get from it, Just to see if the integrated graphics can handle 3d games well.

The tests take a couple minutes to run.
Please report back if you decide to run these applications.

Thanks

With the issue with the stylus vs pointer location, have you tried calibrating yet?

3D performance

There is another thread now regarding 3D performance. Maybe you could run some tests for him. He's asking about blender.

Exclamation

I sent an email to shipitforyou.com for C3500.They answered :

"That notebook is currently backordered until the end of the month due to the monitor. The LCD they are using is hard to come by and they ran out during manufacturing"

:ermm:
