| Email Launch Button Question I just noticed this morning (actually, I may have known about this before but decided it wasn't important and pushed it on the backburner and forgot about it) the Email Launch button on the Acer Travelmate C111 looks like it is a "lightable" button. Meaning, it doesn't have the same chrome look the other buttons have but rather transparent. So, my question is: Is the Email button supposed to light up when there is new mail? If so, does anyone know where I go on the system to configure it? I looked in the Launch Manager, but that is where you tell it which application to launch. As usual, the Acer website isn't very helpful unless it's buried somewhere. It's nothing really important, but would definitely add to the Coolness Factor (tm) of the Tablet. Have you gotten this to work on yours, LPH? GeneT |

| GeneT, You are right! The button is different but I've never played with it. Let me see what can I can find. Update: Looked in the User's Guide and the email launch key is tied to an email checking application. Set this up using the Launch Manager --> Email Checking Setting. Oddly the documentation says that you cannot use hotmail but yahoo is fine. Setup the application for my email on the server tabletquestions.com and immediately the email button started to flash. Very cool.

| OK. I found a writeup on installing Linux distributions on the Acer. Quote:

| LPH, Thanks for the advice. It looks like the port is set to 110 so if you have a POP or SMTP server that uses a different port (like GMail uses 995) then it won't work...unless there's some way to change the default port in the Email Checking settings. On another note, being as it can be accessed using a Linux version on the Tablet, it can probably be accessed using some API call in Windows. It won't necessarily help me as I'm not planning to write an email client any time soon, but it might come in handy to flash that button for something else. GeneT |
