Question C303 screen question

Hello everybody,

for one week now I own an Acer C303 and I need to ask for help from you experts already:

The indicators on the to frame of the screen include a small circle with some sort of inward facing little arrows. What is this? I can't find anything in the documentation which came with the machine. Is it a light detector which would ultimately dim the schreen backlight automatically according to the detected brightness of the environment the machine is used in? If so, this automatic adaption seems not to work (or the adjustments are so minor that I am not able to notice it). Do I need to turn this function on manually somewhere?

When I use the machine in tablet mode and it goes into stand-by bor not using ist for the pre-set time and I re-activate it using the power swith, the screen is really dark and can hardly be read. I then need to restart to get a properly lit screen. What is wrong? Do I do something wrong?

I use an external optical wheel mouse. I set the wheel function to scroll 5 lines at a time. When I shut the machine down and start it again the next time, this setting has miraculously changed itself to only one line at a time. This is quite annoying.

Please help.

Otherwise I am really happy with the notebook and start getting used to the tablet mode.

Thank you all for your input.

Andreas

Sorry, I don't mean to be dumb but I'm not sure which button you are talking about by your description. I've looked at your post a few times and am baffled by what you mean. Maybe we could start by you taking a picture of the unit and circling the button OR Acer has done an excellent job with their Virtual Tour and maybe you could use it to figure out what the functions are for each button. Besides, anyone who hasn't seen the virtual tour should see it.

I'd love to help but just don't know which one you are referring to ...

With regard to the light sensor, there are adjustments so that the Tablet will "remember the setting" for the next time it is in that environment. Maybe this is what you are talking about ?

Hello LPH,

I am glad somebody reacted to my post. I have to apologize for all the typos in my original post which made me feel really bad when I re-read it today, sorry. In addition, English is not my first language, please apologize any mistakes in grammar or vocabulary.

I do not completely understand what you mean with "button". But I guess you refer to the small circle I indicated in paragraph one of my post. I have included a picture which highlights the circle which I meant with a red circle. Hope this helps to resolve my issues.

By the way, your link to the virtual tour was not really helpful, because it led to the Newsweek Magazine homepage. I doubt that this is what you intended.

Any hints regarding my other problems: (i) very dark screen after waking-up from the stand-by mode, and (ii) the decrase in the setting of the number of lines which the mouse scrolls after each new booting.

Maybe your referral to the adjustments for the light sensor are also a good start. I have no clue how to access these. I do not mean to be stupid and usually I think I have an appropriate understanding for these things :detective , but this time I am lost somehow. :helpsmili

Thank you for your help!!

Andreas

If I paid attention to the number of mistakes I make in a day then I might not do anything. Welcome

Yes, that helps ! It's the Acer light sensor.

Disable the power management and see if this helps on the dark screen. In terms of the mouse, is this jerking during heavy cpu load? How much memory does the system have and does this happen when you have a lot of apps open? Finally, what is the BIOS version?

LPH,

thank you for your immediate reply. I am quite busy at the moment and will be travelling for the rest of this week (my first time on the road with the tablet!), so please excuse any delays in posts.

The system has 1GB memory. Bios is v 1.08. The problem with the mouse happens only when I shut the computer down and start it again. There is no connection with cpu usage or number of apps. Funny thing is, I installed MouseManager software from Logitech this morning for my Logitech mouse and now the respective setting for the number of lines to be scrolled has disappeared completely from the setting screen. Thought I'd fix it with installing proper software, but I am not convinced.

Finally in connection with the Acer Soft Button I found a button to activate and in-activate the light sensor. I will play around with this during this week and report after I am back.

Thank you again for yor help and attention and your great Forum!

Andreas
