I am cross-posting this in the hopes that it will help other people having
the same problem. When I tried to install the Windows Mobile DST fix, I kept
getting the error "microsoft activesync or windows mobile device center
software is required to install this software".

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate, Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate and
Microsoft OneCare, and have my Palm Treo 700W recognized by WMDC and syncing
properly to my Outlook.

I tried disabling the OneCare Antivirus and Firewall, but to no avail. I
finally disabled UAC (User Access Control), and voila, after restarting the
update ran fine.

Try using the CAB file method that should bypass any issues you would
have with Vista

use the method for Devices that do not connect to a PC, below where it
has links to "Users who connect to a PC"
