| Move email from Inbox to another folder On my new Samsung Blackjack (replacing an aging Siemens PocketPC phone), I've run into a use case that just doesn't seem right to me: there's got to be an easier way to do this. I often read mail on my phone, and then want to file it. I've got a very large mailbox, with several hundred folders, arranged hierarchically. On my old Pocket PC, I could easily do this with one hand, since the folder tree was collapsible. But from what I can tell, the email folder tree on my new phone is NOT collapsible, and this means that I can't navigate it hierarchically. Instead, I have to painfully, tediously, unbelievably slowly scroll through hundreds of folders until I find the right one. Please, someone, tell me that there's an easier way to do this. |

| Re: Move email from Inbox to another folder I'm not guaranteeing that this will work because I don't have a Blackjack to test with, but try typing the name of the folder you wish to navigate to. This is not necessarily a feature we consciously developed, but it may simply work as an inherited behavior of the treeview control that we use. -- Jeffrey Min Software Development Engineer Microsoft Corp. | Re: Move email from Inbox to another folder Thanks for your reply -- unfortunately, I tried that, but it has two significant problems. (1) It interprets the keypresses as numbers rather than letters, and (2) it interprets each key press as an independent navigation, rather than putting them all together. In other words, if I try to type "DB Notifications" at that point, it interprets the "D" as a "4" and moves me to a folder called "4.8.0", and then interprets the "B" as an "8" and moves me to a folder called "8.0". Not terribly helpful. Do you know if this is fixed in 6.0? In the meantime, I think I'll be returning this SmartPhone (it's just too ****ed painful), and go with a Pocket PC. | Re: Move email from Inbox to another folder Sorry to hear that it didn't work out, Nick. Admittedly I don't think that your use case of triaging mail into hundreds of different folders is one that we prioritized for this release. However you did just give me a good idea for a Powertoy. :) -- Jeffrey Min Software Development Engineer Microsoft Corp. | Re: Move email from Inbox to another folder Thanks for commiserating, Jeff :-). I look forward to the Powertoy. Incidentally, the tree control that is used in the PocketPC (rather than Smartphone) version of Outlook is exactly what is needed. It has collapsible nodes, and allows for reasonably fast one-handed folder navigation.
