Phone internet

Is anyone aware of a cell phone type internet that will work with a notebook
computer?

There are many options
Most cellular carriers sell modems that can be connected to the laptop and provide internet access via the cell service. This will require an additional dataplan
Or you can connect a cable between your cell phone and laptop. Check with your carrier regarding requirements on your plan to use the "phone as a modem"

Byond that, some of the major carriers are offering reasonably good deals on Netbooks with 3G caoability built in, if you sign a contract in blood. There are also notebooks available that offer the cell modems built in, but again you do need to shell out for the data plan.
