| WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync Are there any plans to bring this back? I notice 4.5 beta does not have this either. Thanks |

| Re: WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync Not that I know of, but do be aware that WM5 and AS4.x does sync fine over the internet, over the air, via WiFi, etc. if you are syncing directly with the Exchange server. That is also the requirement for the much touted push e-mail capability. What has been removed is the ability to connect to an Outlook client via IP, regardless of what the medium is. -- Sven MVP - Mobile Devices "Raeldor" <Raeldor@online.nospam> wrote in message news:OEbjzk1LHHA.3872@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Are there any plans to bring this back? | Re: WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync Guess I also wonder why you consider WM5 useless without 'remote' sync to your desktop? Do you have a secretary that updates contacts and calendar information back at your desktop that you need to sync to? Presumably if you have internet connectivity at your WM5 device, you could download mail directly rather than syncing with Outlook Inbox. Nothing is stopping you from accessing files on your desktop remotely. What is so critical about syncing with your desktop from a remote location that the unit is useless without it? -- Sven MVP - Mobile Devices "Raeldor" <Raeldor@online.nospam> wrote in message news:OEbjzk1LHHA.3872@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Are there any plans to bring this back? | Re: WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync Yes, but my company has an SSL VPN and the Exchange server sits inside this on our corporate network (ie, it's not visible from the internet). | Re: WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync If active sync had internet sync back, I could make it visible from the internet. Sure it's a security risk, but I could host an open source VPN that is compatible with the built in VPN support in WM5. | Re: WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync And you can't do that for Exchange, or you are willing to circumvent the company security on your own, but not if you have to involve the IT guys (maybe that's you) I would like to see it back myself, but I haven't found the lack of the capability to have rendered my PPC(s) useless. I rarely have someone sitting at my desktop making contact and calendar entries while I am away, that I need to sync with anyway. As a form of backup, I find a backup to and SD card just as reliable. -- Sven MVP - Mobile Devices "Ray Price" <raeldor******.com> wrote in message news:%23$HoWuOMHHA.1276@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > If active sync had internet sync back, I could make it visible from the > internet. | Re: WM5 Useles Without Internet Sync I guess to some degree I would be circumventing their security, yes; my email would be visible unless I implemented my own VPN-like solution. Being a medium sized company, the IT guys don't have the resource to put time into projects that only affect a small number of people. I see this as something that will become increasingly asked for though (I'm just impatient! :D). I think the more useful things would be access to email (obviously) and Windows Mobile Communicator. At least for me. Calendar I can live with synching at my desk.
