ActiveSync reconnect problem, ver 4.2 and 4.5

I'm connecting a Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone to a Compaq laptop. I've had no
issues for over 2 months using ver 4.2.
Now my device will connect once, then I have to either reboot the computer
or log off Windows and log back on in order to reconnect. There was no
problem until last week. I've re-installed Activesync on the computer, and
also re-flashed the OS on my Cingular 3125, no change. Message on the phone
is;
"Alert;
"To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.1 or higher on
your desktop computer."
I tried to repair installation of ver 4.2, no change. I installed the 4.5
beta, still no change.
Everything works fine until I disconnect the phone from the laptop. It was
connected via 2.0 Cardbus, now it's connected directly to the USB port in
back to see if that would help. No change.
Once I log off Windows and back on, it works fine until I disconnect and
reconnect.
Should I kill all Activesync processes and then try? Is there a service that
can be restarted?

Re: ActiveSync reconnect problem, ver 4.2 and 4.5

Well, killing the two running processes Wcescomm.exe and Rapimgr.exe
seemed to do the trick. Don't know why, but now I can disconnect and
reconnect as needed. Maybe the processes were left running after I upgraded
to 4.5? Don't see how, 4.2 was uninstalled by the ActiveSync install prog.
