| optonline outlook smtp problem wm5 I have a motorola Q with windows mobile 5 and outlook. I just switched isps from att/yahoo to optonline. for some reason i cant get the optonline smtp servers to accept smtp email transmissions with outlook. pop works fine. i never had this problem with at/tyahoo or hotmail setup. Has anybody encountered this and figured it out? optonline does have a mobile web email site which is pretty worthless, it limits the total length of an email that you can send for example. optonline tech support has told me they don't troubleshoot mobile email problems. i am connecting with my phone through my verizon evdo dataplan and there is plenty of signal and bandwidth avaialble. |

Some ISPs refuse SMTP from "foreign" providers to block spam. You're trying to access the Optonline SMTP server from Verizon instead of Optonline. To help with this, most cellular providers ofer an alternate SMTP server for mobile use. I don't use Verizon, but I found this: http://www.c3sd.com/email_servers_ports.php: ....which says: Verizon Wireless SMTP Server VZWMAIL.com SMTP PORT: 25 Verizon Wireless has also provided an outgoing server (vzmail.net) However, you must register with vtext.com first and then follow these instructions: 1. Set up an account with vtext.com and establish a username and password for the website. 2. Select Advanced options for SMTP 3. Select SMTP Authentication 4. Under username enter yourphonenumber@vzwmail.net 5. Under password enter your password for vtext.com Good luck! |
