| Windows Mobile 6.1 Can anyone advise how to get Windows Mobile 6.1? It would appear from the website that it is available... but I can't find it... probably right under my nose... Thanks |

| Re: Windows Mobile 6.1 You get it from wherever you got your Windows Mobile Device, assuming they are providing it. More specifically, if you bought an HTC device from HTC or Expansys, or other retailer, you can get upgraded OSs from HTC. If you got a device from AT&T or Sprint, etc, you have to get the update from those carriers. Not all suppliers provide updates of this sort, and not always in a timely manner if they do. For example I believe AT&T is only providing the 6.1 update for the TILT and BJII, and neither is officially out yet, though BJII with 6.1 already on them have been sold. The primary reason for this is that MS does not provide the OS to the user (you), it provides it to the equipment manufacturer. The licensing and legal agreements with those manufacturers preclude them for providing upgrades directly to consumers. One thing to understand is that what runs on your device is not just what MS provides to the manufacturer. Each device has additional drivers and hardware unique functions added. It is not possible to get a 'naked' OS from MS and just slap it on any device like a desktop OS. There isn't a library of virtually all possible configurations for the OS to pick from for screen drivers, button mapping, radio support etc, like there is on a desktop or laptop install. Those sorts of things are customized by the device manufacturer. If you continue searching you are sure to find 'third party', 'developer', 'hacked', 'cooked', versions of the ROM for your device. Disregarding the legality of such things, be aware that they can cause issues, since they are unlicensed, unsanctioned, generally unsupported, versions. Not to say there aren't some excellent offerings out there, but use at your own risk, with an understanding of what you are doing.
