| Moto Q not syncing with Vista Home premium Hi I have installed windows mobile device center several times on my vista home premium computer. I used to have my moto q sync with my old xp pro computer via MS Active Sync 4.5 with no problem. I have been struggling to make my WDMC see my moto q phone. Sometimes, I can see the name of the moto q phone in wdmc but it justs hangs on "Connecting". It doesn't go further than that. That is, there is no partnership established. When I go into device manager, I see a "Windows mobile device" and I click on properties. It says " This device cannot start (code 10).". WHen I try the sync center in vista, it does not even recognize the existence of the phone. I have installed usb support for vista (I think the url for that was http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941600 ) but nothing works. There is nothing wrong with the usb cable. Any suggestions? I do have zonealarm and avast antivirus but I doubt that is the problem because activesync on my xp pro had no problems. Thanks C |

In the hardware overview you will must of the time see a well connected USB-device. The 'Windows Mobile Device'-section otherwise searches for the correct driver for the 'Windows Mobile Device'. Whatever you will try, even upgrade to all possible Vista-upgrades - nothing will help. If you connect the same mobile device to a WindowsXP-machine with ActiveSync (e.g. version 4.5.) installed, the problem doesn't occur. It may be necessary to reset the device whilst or shortly after launching ActiveSync. The question many PDA-users ask themselves is: why didn't Microsoft also keep the possibility to use ActiveSync, or a similar technology, on WindowsVista. For the moment you can't use ActiveSync at all on WindowsVista. So if you experience the unovercomeable WindowsVista Windows Mobile Device driverproblem, you'd better have a XP-PC in your neighbourhood if you want to sync things. Microsoft doesn't really seem to have a solid solution to the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 driver obstacle. The manufacturers haven't got the solution either. Drivers not signed for WindowsVista? Forget about WindowsVista (and WMDC) then. |

| Re: Moto Q not syncing with Vista Home premium I'm trying to sync a T-Mobile Dash to a Vista computer and having the same issue. At first I thought it was the phone, so I had T-Mobile send out a replacement phone, which worked for a while, but now won't sync via USB again. I can sync through Bluetooth, but that doesn't help me when I want to use tether the phone for use as a modem. For me, that was the whole point for getting the data package in the first place, so I'm quite frustrated. The techie at T-Mobile said the USB ports may be timing out/shutting down to save power and indicated that there was some setting that could be changed to make it work again. However, because he couldn't be responsible for screwing up my laptop, he wouldn't tell me how to do whatever it was he was talking about so ambiguously. Does anyone have any idea what that might be, or if it might actually work? I still have a year left on my contract and don't want to keep doing hard resets or getting new phones every other month, especially since the Dash is so buggy. (Thank heaven for SKTools, otherwise I'd be driven mad by the incessant alarms!) I keep hoping that if it worked once, there has to be some way to make it work again..... |

(I realize that doesn't "solve" the USB connection issue, but it might be a less frustrating solution...) > For > me, that was the whole point for getting the data package in the first > place, so I'm quite frustrated. I think the tech was "passing the buck" by laming equipment he wasn't responsible for troubleshooting. > Does anyone have any idea what that might be, or if it > might actually work? I know what it might be, utnot how to fix it... :( The Dash, and all WM 5 and 6 smartphones connects to the PC as a network adapter, not a USB serial device like older smartphones. Some PC firewalls, other installed netork drivers and cards, etc. really don't along with that for some reason. On touchs reen WM phones there's a "USB- to-PC" menu in the "Connections" settings that lets you disable "Advanced Network Functionality" and make the phone's USB port emulate the older, less problematic USB serial connection method. Unfortunately, the Da h doesn't seem to have that setting, at least not in WM5 (the version of WinMo on my wife's Dash.) > I still have a year left on my contract and > don't want to keep doing hard resets or getting new phones every other > month, especially since the Dash is so buggy. Probably, but tethering via Bluetooth is more likely an easier solution, if possible. |
