HELP-home screen dial problems in Samsung Blackjack II

hi,

i am using the blackjack II (wm6 standard version) since sometime now.
although i have used smartphones and ppcs a lot, this is a problem i
came across for the first time in this phone only and havent been able
to figure out.

all my contacts appear fine in the 'contact's' folder/list. but when i
try to dial from the home screen, some names are not shown only as
options. many times the combination of the letters give many options
but not the one that i intend to dial. so i find it from the
'contacts' tab and i get the one that was missing. i checked whether i
wrote it in surname, company name or first name and all that is also
fine. infact i have syncd my contacts, apptmts, tasks etc from the
computer and the data is as it was since my last smartphone which did
not give any such problems.

please advice... its irritating as hell and threatens to dislodge me
as an avid windows phone user permanently.... and i dont want to go
there!

help...

AFAIK, the "smartdialing" softwre is manufacturer-specific, so it isn't
surprising it functions differently on different devices.

My guess is that it uses the "file as" field as it's source. In some
devices I've used, it would ignore company names IF the same contact also
have a first name/last name. I.e. "John Smith" of "ABC Corporation" would
display in the smart dial if I keyed "Joh..." or "Smi...", but never if I
keyed "ABC" UNLESS I had "ABC Corp." as a separate contact.

I suspect that's your workaround- create separate contacts for those who
have both name and company name fields.

thats what i suspected myself but the names which, in my experience,
are not showing up due to the problem are contacts which do not have
any company name entry... and anyway i always enter the company name
alongwith the first name. so my contact shows like this :

xyz-(abc company)
OR
xyz-(electrician/plumber/anyone)
OR
dad

and the problem is random ie it happens in any contact w/o any
pattern. but once it happens to that contact, that contact will never
show. eg- 'dad' did not show in the list. i have 2 numbers under 'dad'
one is 'dad' and other is 'dad-atnt' (since he has 2 numbers). so when
i press dad, then all combinations including dad-atnt show up but dad
does not...

hope this clarifies the problem more.. pl lemme know if you need any
more info...

thanks a lot in advance..

Sadly, I'm stumped. Sounds like a bug in the speed dial software for at
particular phone. I suspect you'll have to contact Samsung, report the
bug, and hope they correct it in a future ROM release...
