..psw are "Pocket Word" files used by Pocket PCs prior to WM5, when the
switch to "Word Mobile" was made. WM5/6 "Professional" (Touchscreen)
devices can read them for legacy support, but I guess WM6 Standard devices
(no touchscreen) can't.

Since WM5 devices use .doc by default, are you SURE your buddy is using
WM5? (I ask because the solution to your problem differs depending on his
OS.
The easiest solution, if your buddy's using a pre-WM5 device would be for
your buddy to e-mail the files to you from his device, since the device
auto-converts .psw to .doc when e-mailing, on the assumption whoever
receives the e-mail will be unable to use a .psw file. (Like you!)

If he has a WM5 device, the autoconversion doesn't happen- he'll need to
open each file in his copy of Word Mobile, save it in .doc format, then
give them to you.

For future reference, BTW, you're in the wrong NG. "Handheld PC" refers to
a no longer produced clamshell form factor device running Windows CE.
Modern "Windows Mobile" devices are discussed in microsoft.public.pocketpc
(touchscreen devices) and microsoft.public.smartphone (non-touchscreen,
like your Dash.) I've added the latter to this post to hopefully attract
additional useful comments.
