When will Vista Calendar sync with Win mobile

Judging from the many posts across the internet, one of the major complaints
about Win Mobile 6.1 is that it will not sync with Vista calendar or
contacts. For the many of us that either do not have MS Office or purchased
Office Home & Student (me included) this is a major frustration.

Does anyone have any idea when the Win Mobile team will correct this major
shortcoming??

Actually, WM 6.1 hasn't been released yet (outside of beta), but it's true
than no version of WM supports Vista Mail's Calendar/Contacts.

True, but it's a recent frustration. Until recently, most if not all WM
devices included a copy of Outlook.

First, they'd have to consider it a "shortcoming." Synching with Outlook
Express (the Win98/XP predecessor of Vista Mail) was never supported
either, so I'm guessing that in the eyes of Microsoft, Windows Mobile
hasn't lost any functionality in Vista that it had previously in XP.

As a possible workaround in the meantime, you might consider a free
Exchange account with mail2web.com, and use Outlook W b Access- essentially
"Outlook in a browser" until some native or 3rd party sync tool (keep an
eye on Funambol.com- they're working on it!) exists.

Re: When will Vista Calendar sync with Win mobile

Point is, technically it is not an 'issue'. No PPC/SP/Windows Mobile Device
has ever sync'd with anything other than Outlook or Exchange without some
third party additions. At this point I know of no 3rd party package that
extends Vista's Windows Mobile Device Center (AS only works on XP not
Vista), to sync with other PIMs like Windows Mail (IE Express replacement),
Palm Desktop or even Vista's own calendar and contacts.

Intellisync, by Pumasoft, was one product that did this sort of thing on XP,
but I haven't seen them produce a Vista/WMDC version.

You missed Option three- buy Outlook. Activesync won't sync with Vista's
Windows Mail contacts and calendar.

Re: When will Vista Calendar sync with Win mobile

Assuming Outlook is only licensed for one PC and I have 2; purchasing
Outlook at $110 a copy is not a reasonable response.

Perhaps not, but Vista's not really to blame here- Windows Mobile devices
couldn't sync with Outlook Express either, so you'd be in the same boat
even if running XP.

Other than returning the phone, a (lousy, admittedly) option would be a
free Exchange account from mail2web.com. The free accounts will sync with
your phone, but not your PC- you'd have to use Outlook Web Access (web
based access to your Outlook data that looks like Outlook.)
