| Is it possible to replace Outlook for Syncing? Hi everybody, My company doesnt use Outlook so we dont have it installed in our laptops. I have a smartpone running WM6 which syncs ActiveSync with outlook. Does anybody knows of a replacement that I can use to sync with ActiveSync but not to Outlook? Thanks in advance, Dan |

| Re: Is it possible to replace Outlook for Syncing? Not sure exactly what you are asking. Does your company use some other PIM (contacts, calendar, etc.) software? Or are you asking for one to be recommended, other than Outlook. In either case, AS will not sync with it. It only works with Outlook. If you are not now using something else, you might consider Outlook. If you are using something else, what, would be a useful thing to provide. There are third party options that 'extend' AS to other PIMs like Palm Desktop, Lotus, etc. One such is Intellisync. That only works with AS thought, as opposed to WMDC on Vista. I know of no options for Vista users at this time, other than WMDC and Outlook for PIM syncing. -- Sven MS MVP Mobile Devices "DanStates" <gamesstate******.com> wrote in message news:62163833-1425-4847-bb21-f0349509e163@l32g2000hse.googlegroups.com... > Hi everybody, > > My company doesnt use Outlook so we dont have it installed in our > laptops. Can you be more precise, please; He means that _all_ 3rd-party sync solutions still use Activesync as the underlying conduit to transfer information to and from the PPC. They "ride on top of" Activesync rzther than replace it. > IntelliSync seems to be a business solution : > http://europe.nokia.com/A4162029 One could argue that Windows Mobile itself is also considered a "business solution." There's certainly no "free" (or even low-cost) add-ons or substitutes for Activesync that I'm aware of. And the sync add-ons themselves are so pricey (Intellisync is $70, IIRC) that the average user is often better off just switching to Outlook for the $100 or so (if it wasn't already included with the device.) |

| Re: Is it possible to replace Outlook for Syncing? What are the other other third party options? I like my Palm desktop pretty well, but I am trying to see if I can live with a WM6 smartphone (HTC S710). I have been searching high and low for an option to sync the phone with the palm desktop. I am going to try Intellisync, but if you have other options, I'd be greatful. I just am NOT pro Outlook. Sorry! It could even sync to a different PIM, just not outlook. :-) Thanks, Eric "Sven" wrote: > There are third party options that 'extend' AS to > other PIMs like Palm Desktop, Lotus, etc. One such is Intellisync. |

Europeans get punished if they want to use Outlook in paying a hefty 125 € = 185 $ for Outlook 2007. But delivery is free. I guess Bill used such an innovative process when he translated from US-English into GB-English that we have to understand we have to pay a small subsidy for the translation. We are all so eager to finance research for getting such an overwhelming quality product . |

I live in the US, but I'm not sure that necessarily equates to happiness! ;-) Sorry about the price of Outlook UK- I had no idea the apparent difficulty of converting Colonial English into the Queen's English. It must be a daunting task to raise the price of the product 50%! Silly me- I thought you just added a few extra "u's" into a few words, and pronounced "aluminium" and "schedule" differently... > I guess Bill used such an innovative process when he translated from > US-English into GB-English that we have to understand we have to pay a > small subsidy for the translation. I'm suddenly envisioning a sideline business opportunity in the grey-market export and sales of Microsoft software into Europe... ;-) |

That would equate to about 44 GBP. But ebuyer.com (a low-price UK supplier) list Outlook for 87.44 GBP, or roughly 172 USD, other retailers charge more. That sort of differential is standard for all US-originated software products. I've never heard a good reason for it though. Of course, in practice, most people would get better value buying Office rather than stand-alone Outlook. -- WH |
