| Cannot setup GMail on my Samsung Blackjack SGH-i600 Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone Hi! I have tried very desperately to set up GMail account using Pocket Outlook on my Saqmsung SGH-i600 (Blackjack) Smartphone, upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. I do eerything correctly but I can't get GMail to be downloaded to my Blackjack. The error dailog read: An error occurred while downloadinf messages. Be certain that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again. I tried to delete GMail and create a new account over and over again, making sure that everything is correct but still won't work. I noticed that when I entyered my email (when create new GMail account), the download of auto seeting is so fast like it do not download anything from the net, but the setting is there. Another point is when set up, user name read "recent: XXX******.com" Help please Regards Sanchai T. Bangkok, Thailand |

| Re: Cannot setup GMail on my Samsung Blackjack SGH-i600 Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone Please take into account that GMail requires special ports to connect and SSL. I hope you have set that. -- ---- Helio Diamant MS-MVP/Mobile Devices Editor - PocketPCFreak.com "Sanchai Thiewprasertkul" <sanchaiThw@au.edu> wrote in message news:eu9pLkCIIHA.1164@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hi! > > I have tried very desperately to set up GMail account using Pocket Outlook > on my Saqmsung SGH-i600 (Blackjack) Smartphone, upgraded to Windows Mobile > 6. | Re: Cannot setup GMail on my Samsung Blackjack SGH-i600 Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone > Another point is when set up, user name read "recent: XXX******.com" This is correct BTW - Google's POP3 implementation is non-standard in that it hides messages that have been downloaded by POP3 so that next time the device asks for a list of messages, any previously downloaded messages don't appear, i.e. they appear to have been deleted. This isn't effected by the switch to leave a copy on the server. So what in effect happens is: 1. WM6 checks for email 2. Some email appears in your inbox 3. WM6 checks again 4. The email is hidden on the server so WM6 assumes it's been deleted so deletes you local copy *Bang* your email is there for 5 minutes and then gone :-) The recent: prefix on your username is a gmail fudge to always disable this "hiding of previously downloaded messages" and always return the past 30 days. WM6 is working as designed which is that when you download and delete the messages off the POP3 server (e.g. you download the emails to Outlook at work/home), then it deletes the copies off your mobile. Some people don't like this but I think it's a good way to work. It means that you don't have to delete your email from both your mobile and main email PC. If you want to keep an email, simply move it into another folder. Cheers, Rob. |

| Re: Cannot setup GMail on my Samsung Blackjack SGH-i600 Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone All valid information, but regarding your last point: "WM6 is working as designed which is that when you download and delete the messages off the POP3 server (e.g. you download the emails to Outlook at work/home), then it deletes the copies off your mobile. Some people don't like this but I think it's a good way to work. It means that you don't have to delete your email from both your mobile and main email PC. It would be nice if I could make a saved messages folder, but the best I can do is moved a message to the Sent Items folder if I want to keep them. You are indeed correct - that's a silly omission. As much as I like my HTC S710, WM6 really does have some daft flaws. Cheers, Rob. |
