What does the SmartPhone use to resolve WORK servers

I am using a Windows 2000 AD domain. I have setup DNS and WINS resolution
inside. I don't have any internal connectivity issues with any of the 100
computers and 5 servers. I have several web based management devices like
copiers, print servers, switches, etc.

I have no issues using RDP remotely over a VPN connection to connect to any
server or workstation setup for RDP access. I also have no issue connecting
to the web based management devices with a PC over the VPN connection.

I am trying to use my Motorola Q smartphone to manage some things remotely.
I have no problem using it to connect to the server running WINS and the
Secondary DNS. No problems connecting to my Exchange 2003 server either.
No problems connecting to workstations either.

I cannot connect to any of the following:
--Web based management hardware devices like copiers, print servers, pdu
units, etc.
--The Domain Controller configured as the Primary DNS server
--Websites internally that are configured as Alias names. For example
EXCHANGESERVER can be reached to sync mail and even access OWA and OMA, but
if I try to access my INTRANET site by name my smartphone says the site
cannot be found even though there is a DNS entry for the alias and all the
internal computers and PCs working on the VPN can connect fine.

What I can do for the web content is to change the IE settings for
connections on the smartphone to Work and type in the IP address, but I
can't remember every IP address and that only works for web based stuff, not
things like VNC which I need to use as well.

I am thinking it is an address resolution issue. Most all of the items that
can be reached seem to have an option to register their IP with the DNS
service, but the other static IP address devices that cannot be reached have
had their IP's manually entered into the DNS servers. Is this a problem for
Windows Mobile 5?
