| Copy/Paste in Windows Mobile 5 This may be a question that everyone keeps on asking but: how do I copy/paste in Windows Mobile (model Samsung BlackJack)? Since I am new to mobile OS, it would be great to know how this OS is rated in the world compared to BlackBerry or iPhone OSs? What did I really get? |

What did I really get? > Not sure if this answers your question, but I am dumping Blackberry in favor of WM5 and Activesync. I use these devices in an enterprise environment and don't like being chained to a BES. I will reduce the footprint in my datacenter and give users a better information transmission device, as well as reduce TCO and over all initial cash outlay for upper management. What's not to like? Oh and I like WM5 better than BES 4.1 (what I am using now). Plus with many smartphones you can turn them into more interactive PDA's with minimal effort and an inexpensive download for editing excel and word types of files. HTH |

I thought I was doing something wrong when I couldn't copy-paste on my BJ. The head of programming for one of the nation's largest mobile software companies told me it is not available in what we call Smartphone/Mobile 5. If and when we get a Mobile 6 upgrade, it is rumored that feature will be included as well as voice command. I advise friends and clients, the Blackjack may be the baseline for an intelligent cell phone user. IMHO the primary feature is the ease of learning the Microsoft mobile OS if you have been using Windows. Drop in a 1 or 2 gigabyte microSD card, download free Google Maps for Mobile and Microsoft Live Search from http://www.handango.com then find a compatible Bluetooth GPS unit. Yesterday Cingular was selling refurb Blackjacks for $69. What a deal! |

What a deal! Thank you all. I found a VITO CopyPaste as my solution but have difficulties installing it. The website provides exe file only but I do not see cab file to download straight to the device. Anyway, I'll research it further. |

Please do follow my articles on my blog - I've also emphasized in them WM6 Standard does NOT support copying / pasting either. As has asl been pointed out by me, VITO's CopyPaste is the best solution for copy/pasting. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. Holding the stylus down should give you the option to paste after you have copied something. |

Copy and paste is not included with Mobile 5 on the Blackjack. It's rumored it will be available with the Mobile 6 upgrade, if and when that happens. |

| Re: Copy/Paste in Windows Mobile 5 Note that you're referring to the Pocket PC, and not a Smartphone. Smartphones do NOT have (and will not officially have in WM6) any support for copy / paste operations. You'll need third-party programs for this; for example, Vito CopyPaste. They, however, are only able to copy contents of text input fields / areas. I also recommend following my articles; for example, in my Smartphone IM Bible, I've also thoroughly elaborated on the built-in copy/paste capabilities of the available IM apps. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. I have upgraded the Dash to WM6 and there is no copy/paste feature. If I stay with WM I will upload VITO's CopyPaste. Windows Mobile is not at all sophisticated in its scheduler or contact features, and it is cumbersome to input them. I think they must have designed it to support Outlook rather than be the main scheduling/ contact source. I will either have to try some add-on software to keep using it, or go back to the Palm for my schedule and contacts. |

Thanks for the info about the "Smartphones" that I didn't know earlier. After more reading I see there is also a "Pocket PC Phone." BTW your blog looks great from what I've just seen of it and I'll get back to it. |

| Re: Copy/Paste in Windows Mobile 5 Yup, Pocket PC phones are different from "(MS) Smartphones" - the latter refers to the touchscreen-less MS Smartphone platform. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. While the Dash is a slick little device, I can't say I'm overly impressed with the Smartphone flavor of Windows Mobile (now called WM6 "Standard".) Stylus-based Windows Mobile devices (formerly known as "Pocket PC Phones," now "WM6 Professional") have far more capability built-in, greater expansion capability via 3rd party software, and are less reliant on a PC as a data-entry source. Most of my contact and calendar data is entered on my PPC Phone and eventually sync'd to my PC, rather than the other way around. |

That's how I use my electronic planner also. I was not aware of how pared down the calendar and contact list was. Does anyone have a recommendation for add-on calendar/contact software? I'll be cutting and pasting, rescheduling, and it has to be quicker than it is now. |

I've nominated three titles for the Awards 2007 process (see the nomination list at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/awards/ca....asp#SPCatPIMs ): Agenda One (Developer One, Inc., www.developerone.com) eXtreme Agenda (Birdsoft, www.birdsoft.net) Papyrus (SBSH Mobile Software, www.sbsh.net) -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it.
