WM6 on TMobile Dash - Reminder Sound Bug

Hello All,

As you may or may not know, T-Mobile release a free upgrade to WM6 for
people who purchased a Dash smartphone (came with WM5). There seems to be
many problems with this upgrade, but one is simply mind boggling. I am not
sure if it a Microsoft or T-Mobile issue, but I have no idea how it was
overlooked.

On initial ROM upgrade calendar reminders work just fine. They sound when
they are supposed to and they are indeed audible. However, once you switch
you phone from the normal profile to the vibrate profile and then back to
the normal profile calendar reminders are no longer audible. The reminders
still remind at the correct time, but the phone only vibrates (no audible
alarm). This sounds more like a dumbphone to me.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Regards,
Aaron J. Wood

This has been discussed in HowardForums and xda-developers.com, but the
simplest work around is to rename the "Vibrate" profile to "Normal" (and
change it's settings to match what "Normal" does) and rename "Normal" to
"Vibrate" (and change the settings to match the Vibrate profile.)
Obviously there is no "reminders" option in that profile (hence the bug)
but setting the other options to silent or vibrate mutes the alarms as
well.

Re: WM6 on TMobile Dash - Reminder Sound Bug

Sounds good -- sort of. What's also been discussed in both places is that
when you do as this poster instructs, switching to the new 'vibrate' mode
doesn't vibrate reminders. This 'solution' creates the same problem in
reverse. Instead of not being able to hear a reminder, you can't shut them
off.

Currently, there is no workaround. A few posters have written about their
calls to T-Mobile tech support, eventually it'll be fixed. You're better
off following the issue in the forums than here.

Just to chime in, I am having the exact same issue. I can't even
preview the reminders sound in the sound settings. If anyone finds
anything, please post it back here.

Re: WM6 on TMobile Dash - Reminder Sound Bug

God, what an idiotic bug. Is this a Microsoft issue or a problem with the
Dash's implementation? If it's a Microsoft bug, I can only shake my head....
their QA for the last couple of years has been horrendous (for all their
products).

Looks like I won't be upgrading my BlackJack to WM6 when it comes out.

According to reports, the Blackjack WM6 upgrade from Microsoft/Samsung goes
to Cingular May 26. I think it was stated Cingular has eight weeks to review
before release/reject.

T-Mobile may have been in a marketing bind to release the upgrade early.

I just upgraded to the 'twixt' release on my Blackjack with no problems. I'd
swap the loss of calendar, switching to MS Live, to gain the ability to edit
on the Blackjack. I've tried Orneta Scissors. It just doesn't go far enough.

I created a CAB file that fixes this issue:
