Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

Does anyone know if the Tasks application on the Samsung Blackjack is
crippled some how, or is its severely limited functionality by design?

About all I've been able to do (on the phone itself, that is) is to create
new tasks and mark them completed. As far as I can tell you can't edit an
existing task, nor assign a start/end date or priority to a task, though the
Task application's menu "suggests" that tasks can be sorted and filtered by
priority, start date and end date.

Am I missing something, or is Blackjack's / WM5 - Smartphone Edition Tasks
application missing something?

Thanks.

To test my new Blackjack, I opened the Blackjack manual; followed the
'Home/long press' to obtain the list. The Blackjack provides a list of
running tasks which I think of as applications. I just sent my 8525 to a
programmer for tests today so can't verify, but normally my 'task list' on
the Mobile 5 PPC is a to-do list that can be edited.

I'd suggest you check the Microsoft Mobile 5/6 URL to determine what
>should< happen. I can't determine if it's a Mobile 5 implementation of PPC

vs Smartphone, or Samsung vs HTC.

PS- "Isn't this interesting Ollie?": page 167 of the Blackjack manual lists
'tasks' in Organizer as a to-do list. But on my Blackjack the long press of
the Home key produces a list of running applications they call 'tasks'. Same
word; two meanings. That's like the Blackjack keys that do two things
depending on short or long press.

Duplicity of terms and functions: it's like being married!

No, you haven't missed anything. It's by Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone design
(as developed by Microsoft). It's neither your nor Samsung's fault.
If you really work with Tasks and you need something better (like most of
us) I suggest to try out Agenda One for Smartphone
(http://www.developerone.com/agendaone/) which is a full PIM replacement of
Microsoft's original "Pocket Outlook".
Check this screenshot and you know what I mean:

Re: Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

I think WM5's Tasks are really meant to be used in conjunction with
ActiveSync only. You can assign priorities etc via MS Outlook.

Re: Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

I'll give Agenda One a peek, but am seriously considering swapping out the
Blackjack for a Treo 750. Coming from an iPaq 2215 with WM3, the WM5
Smartphone Edition leaves a little to be desired.

Thanks for the tip!

Re: Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

From what I've discovered, I have to agree with you. But what good is the
Task app if you can only enter a basic "to-do" (better get it entered right
the first time, too!) and mark it complete? Tasks are real-time - priority,
scope, start and end dates can change without notice. Forcing a task user to
update via Outlook kind of takes the "mobile" out of Windows Mobile. Not a
well thought out idea on Microsoft's part, IMO.

Re: Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

I agree. Based on what I've read WM5 for Smartphone was a severe step
backwards (I don't know what Microsoft is smoking nowadays). Hopefully the
WM6 upgrade (which will likely be offerred for free for the Blackjack by
Cingular this summer) will be an improvement.

For now, I'm pretty happy with the Blackjack. If I had wanted a full-blown
PDA I would have gotten one of the larger PocketPC phones (WM5 for PocketPC
is not as limited).

Re: Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

You are talking about two different kinds of tasks:

'Home/long press' - tasks running at the device (programs)
Tasks (from the menu) - parallel to tasks in Outlook, or To-do items.

I hope this makes it clear.

Re: Tasks on Samsung Blackjack

It is a Pocket PC Phone Edition, a completely different level of device.
