Is it possible?

It is possible if you waive on using a secure connection at the Exchange
(uncheck the "Require SSL") option at Exchange.

But then all the communication will be unencrypted, including username and
password that will be sent using clear text through the internet.

In summary: possible, but not recommended

You can do this and use SSL, although not by default. It involves a little
involved work in IIS and registry to do the "workaround", but it can be done
and doesn't take that long if you are ok with IIS and registry editing. Not
for the faint-hearted.
