| Source for replacement backup battery for IPAQ 4700hx? Hi Folks, Looks like the internal backup battery in my IPAQ 4700hx has seen its better days as it is lasting less than 5 minutes with the main battery removed :( I've had a look at www.ipaqrepair.co.uk and I've balked at the £18 ($ 32 or so) asking price for what after all is a small rechargeable button battery. Has anyone on the group found any cheaper sources or can you recommend a suitable and cheaper 3rd party replacement battery? I'm based in the UK, but given the small size a US supplier should not be problematic provided they ship overseas. Any advice appreciated. -- Peter <X-Files fan> |

Hope the above doesn't come across as sarky - not intended. Unfortunately the backup batery make/model is not mentioned on the HP website. Probably for good reason as they term this a "return to HP job" meaning a charge (last time I checked) of ukp 75 to look at the device, then the cost of the battery (typically inflated) and possibly labour on top of that! I was hoping someone on the group owned a 4700 and had already been there done it as far as the backup battery is concerned. The 4700 has been out for around 2 years now so I doubt I'm the only one who has had this problem. I was hoping someone could save me some trouble as I can source the appropriate battery and disassemble the unit / fit the battery in one go. If anyone can help I would be much appreciative. Thanks Peter |

Since my post I've spent some more time on Google and found a thread on the matter at http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=234270 The battery I'm after appears is manufactured by Varta. It is the Varta V6HR. It seems to be a special OEM job though and I've had no luck in finding this particular battery even at specialist electronic stores like RS Components and Farnell :( The cheapest source I've found to date appears to be www.potechpctechs.com who are asking $15 + carriage. This will probably work out somewhat cheaper than ipaqrepair who are based in the UK. There appears to be confusion as to how long the backup battery maintains the settings when called into use. A number of sources say up to 3 hours while the HP FAQs: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmi...aq_hx4700.html say 30 minutes. Strange. BTW if anyone ever needs to disassemble their 4700/4705 a pictorial one pager can be found at: http://pdasmart.zftp.com/instruction...ssembly_06.pdf Best Wishes, -- Peter <X-Files fan> |

Try http://www.budgetbatteries.co.uk Phone: 01202 582700 They haven't got that exact Varta battery on their website, but they may be able to help, they have similar Varta batteries. | Re: Source for replacement backup battery for IPAQ 4700hx? It's a bit late following up this subject, but I have just acquired 4 more Varta V6HR backup batteries than I need. The shipping cost from the US stockist was outrageous but since they normally only ship in quatities of 1000 I cannot complain and I did get the cells! In effect they will have cost me £11 each. If anyone wants any of these I suggest you email me off the group (assuming the rules allow this) Incidentally the symptom of failure was the 4700 said backup battery was intermittently 100% then a few moments later 0%. Checking it as a battery showed it to be unable to supply more than a few microamps. Cheers Gerald gerald AT eteams DOT biz |
