Little help selecting between PDAs

I'm in the market for a PPC PDA, and my needs are fairly simple:

TODO, PIM, Contacts
WIFI
Ability to run emulators (NES/Gameboy/etc.)

Bluetooth, MP3, and video are not so important. I do like user
changeable batteries.

I've been torn if Windows Mobile 5.0 is all that important (mainly
just for the persistent data storage) or if 2002-2003 is fine (will my
data be at that much risk of being wiped out?)

If I go WM5.0 then I've been looking at the rx1955, or possibly the
hx2495 with some nod towards the Axim 51 line.

If not, I really have no idea of a good older iPaq/Axim that fits the
bill. (x3i, x50, etc.)

I'd ultimately like to snag something in good condition, used, from
eBay for under $200 (or around there).

Thanks!

Emulators need FAST hardware and probably more RAM (64mb vs. 32.)

We all got along without persistant storage for years. They have backup
batteries, and you can set the WM2003 PDAs to automatically backup to the
PC every time you sync, and most include backup programs to backup to
storage card.

The X50 is essentially the same machine as the 51 except it's a WM2003
unit instead of WM5.

Then you better stick w/WM2003 at that price range, otherwih you'll end
up with lower speed/memory hardware and you can forget about emulation.

Go for the iPAQ hx4700 with 4" VGA screen, built in PIM (version 5 of
Pocket Informant), wifi, bluetooth etc, a lot of software and place for
both an SD and a CF card. I have run only one simulator, the Atari ST
(Buggy Boy!) without problems.

Alternative is a new x51v with 3,5" VGA and WM5. Although I love my
hx4700, given the price tag of a new Axim and your price range I would go
for a new Axim without hesitation. Look around carefully and you're done
for around $300 brandnew and an up -to-date OS.

Re: Little help selecting between PDAs

If you do need emulators, then, the only real alternative is the Dell Axim
x50v (if you can get it REALLY hceap; say, under $150) or, even better, the
x51v. 2700G-optimized emulators run just GREAT.

See my emulator & 2700G support-related articles on my blog; for example,
I've just published a review of the OpenGL-ES version of PocketSNES.
