Touch screen phones...? About a month ago I was looking for a new phone and did the usual trips around the numerous phone shops in my town. I saw a nice little phone called the LG Chocolate which has a touch screen. The shop assistant said not to bother with it. She has one of those phones and because of the touch screen, when she is making a call, the touch from her ear kept pressing buttons and cutting her off calls. I was just wondering if touch screen PDA's with built in mobile phones have the same problem? Or do they lock the screen during a call? I have to say that its a very bad design decision from LG to have the touch screen being interefered with during a call.

Re: Touch screen phones...? I've never had such problems with the 2.8" HTC models. That is, you can safely go for any PPC PE device. Having a screen protector on he screen may help the problem if you do encounter it - or using BT headsets. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. Hi Werner, I am not looking to replace my new Acer just yet, maybe next year. I was just curious as to whether this was just a fault of that particular phone or possibly a common problem with touch screens and whether PPC/phones had some kind of protection to stop that happening.

Re: Touch screen phones...? Personally, i don't have a Chocolate so I can't comment on that particular model. HTC's current 2.8" models are not problematic in this respect, I'm absolutely sure, and particularly not with a screen protector. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. It happened me mybe once on my HTC, it is not a problem, but maybe some have more sensitive touchscreen. Touchscreens are addictive, so now when I take a regular cell phone in my hands I keep pressing the screen, and notting happens :-)

Re: Touch screen phones...? The Treo 700W has a function to shut off the touch screen when on a call. Never had such a problem with my XV6700, though the touch screen stays on. I wonder if it has anything to do with the indentation of the screen. Is the LGs screen flush with the phone? The XVs screen is indented a couple mm, and my case adds a little more. If your going to use Bluetooth, then it doesn't matter. -- Edgar "Beck" <beck@none> wrote in message news:uC8qqTKQHHA.4376@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > > "Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev]" <BevNoSpamBevHoward.com> wrote in > message news:OZKs48JQHHA.1604@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> If it's a problem, you can also power the unit down when you start the >> call... the ppc part including the screen is deactivated but the phone >> call can proceed. > > Ah that is interesting thanks. IIRC the LG phone had no indentation and was smooth all over. http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/l...late-kg800.htm

Re: Touch screen phones...? As edgar pointed out, the treo 700w has an option in settings to disable the touch screen when on a call, however one of the nice things about a convergent device is the ability to look up things and take notes while on a call. especially when using a headset. If the touchscreen is disabled, you loose this functionality. I have hit the start button and even launched a program or two with my fat cheeks, if I press the device to hard against my face, but have never had it interfere or disconnect my call. Not too mention it probably has some Verizon interface that puts a call disconnect button right where your cheek touches when talking :). -- Edgar -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

Re: Touch screen phones...? >> disable touch screen << In general, powering a ppc-pe off within a call essentially turns off the screen and non telephone buttons... the call, end and volume buttons still function and the ppc powers on when the call ends or (I assume) a second call or message comes in. Of course, if the phone doesn't have call and end buttons, a screen disable would be necessary ;-) Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices]
