WMP 10 Mobile - won't play MP3?

My new HTC Touch Pro 2 (using WM 6.1) is refusing to play MP3 files!
Is that correct behaviour? If so, can someone please tell me where I
can I download WMP 9 Mobile, which played MP3 fine for years on my
iPAQ 221/2215?

Re: WMP 10 Mobile - won't play MP3?

1. Check and, if necessary, restore (with, say, myExtensions - I've talked
about it some days ago in this newsgoup) the mp3 file associations.

2. even better, install an app that has much lower MP3 playback power usage
than the built-in player to increase battery life. These include TCPMP,
CorePlayer and some more players. Of the bunch, I'd go for CorePlayer,
particularly if you'd also like to play back videos. Please see my dedicated
articles on this subject if interested; e.g.,
