Opening JPG from File Explorer

When I go into file explorer and double tap on an image file I get an error
something like "There is no program associated with this file type" but I
can view the same file using the pictures and video viewer. If I explore the
folder from the PC I can see that the files do have the correct .JPG file
extension.

Any thoughts or experience with the problem?

Sounds like the device's registry got muddled up and the device lost the
association between .jpgs and the Picture viewer app. Sometime this
happens when an installed 3rd-party program becomes the default viewer,
but doesn't put things right when uninstalled.

You could use a registry editor to fix this, like PHM's RegEdit or Total
Commander, and set HKCR\jpegimage\Shell\Open\Command\Default to: pimg.exe
"%1"

You might need to soft reset after exiting the Registry Editor for the
edit to take effect.

Good luck!

Also note that you can also redefine extensions with either Resco File
Explorer or myExtensions, w/o needing to turn to direct Registry editing -
