Name ambiguity?

I'm puzzled why my iPAQ 2210 is called 'Pocket_PC' yet the sync folder
that is actually being used is called 'WM_Terry':
http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s...eAmbiguity.jpg

FWIW, 'Pocket_PC' was the name I recall it had for years and then (for
reasons I can't now remember, I think after a crash and full restore)
it changed to 'WM_Terry', or maybe it was 'WM2003_Terry' and I
abbreviated it. Sorry if this is a bit hazy!

Anyway, am I mistaken in thinking the names should match? Where does
they both come from? I note that my Device ID under Settings > About
on the PPC itself says 'Pocket_PC', so I assume that's the source of
that name? But what about the 'sync folder'?

Are you using Vista on this PC? In my experience, Activesync (XP) calls the
sync folder "(PPC Name)_My Documents" while WMDC (Vista) calls it
"WM_(Owner's name)".

ActiveSync 4.5 on XP calls the folder WM_(user name).
Is that the same as WM_(Owner's name)?

ActiveSync 3.8 used PPC Name.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I've never used the "real" release version
of Activesync 4.5. I've been using the 4.5 Beta released when WM6 first
debuted. Being an "if it ain't broke..." kind of guy, I've never bothered
upgrading, and the AS 4.5 horror stories I occasionally hear didn't exactly
encourage me to upgrade. My 4.5 beta uses the 3.8-style "PPC Name_My
Documents" naming convention.

Thanks both, but do either of you know the answer to my main question,
namely: should the names match?

No- your folder uses the device's owner's name (or part of it, anyway),
from the "Owner's Information" which for you is apparently "Terry", rather
than the device's name, which is "Pocket PC." Activesync/WMDC takes care
of all that.
