Sound recorder needed

I run Windows Mobile 6.1 on an HTC P6500.
I am looking for an application which will use the microphone to record
sound to a file - ideally while other applications (excluding phone
obviously) are running.

Re: Sound recorder needed

There are a number of sound recorder apps out there... google for
POCKETPC RECORDER or similar.

>> 6.1 <<

Reports are that most legacy programs run under current os' without
problems... any and all apps will run in background (unlike today's main
competition ;-)

Re: Sound recorder needed

There are several of them. I recommend Resco Audio Recorder (the 4 series as
previous ones had pretty bad MP3 support, should you want to record into
mp3) and (the very cheap) Vito AudioNotes the most.

You might want to take a look at my articles; I've reviewed all of them and
have also published a complete bible of all audio recorders.

Do you mean the one in
<http://www.smartphonemag.com/old_blo...undRecorderApp
s.asp>

Sorry for the delayed response and thanks for your help.

After Beverly Howard's Google suggestion, I installed a trial version of
Resco Audio Recorder 4.52. It reported CPU overload when I switched
application and was running - but not recording - when my PDA seized for
the first time in the several months I have had it.

How do I uninstall it? My WM knowledge is negligible and I was
(pleasantly) surprised to find that running software on the PC actually
installed Resco. The license runs out in 4 days and I would like to
clear it by then.

I will then try Vito Audionotes. I may like its ability only to record
when the input sound is above a threshold level.

Re: Sound recorder needed

1. don't be mislead by it complaining baout CPU usage problems when you
swicth tasks - doing so a CPU-intensive task causing overbrudening even on
the fastest WinMo devices. CPU overuse will only cause problems (e.g.,
stuttering recording) if and only if it also happens when you just run Resco
Recorder in the foreground, not doing anything else.

2. Resco also supports threshold-based recording

Re: Sound recorder needed

Google for NoteM. It is freeware. Records to MP3. It's getting rather
long in the tooth now. I run 2003SE, but it should run under current OS.

Re: Sound recorder needed

Yup, it's compliant with WM5+; it has problems with listing of files, tho.
Therefore, I'd go for the inexpensive ($7) and much-much better VITO Audio
Notes instead, particularly if you also want to (auto)record phone calls.
