| Advice on Pocket PC / Smartphone alternatives Hello - I am writing from Toronto, Canada My HP iPAQ Pocket PC no longer recognizes the stylus and it's an old model anyway so I want to buy a new one. My cell phone contract is also up pretty soon so I'd like something newer and easier. I understand the gap between the smartphones and PDA's is narrower than ever. I also know that Blackberry is pretty popular, and I'm open to that too; the calendar looks harder to navigate I've looked on the web, and for a start, these are the features I know I want. Combined phone and software. GPS because this is fun and I don't have one in my car GSM because I go to Europe and I'd like to use it there. Wifi; Bluetooth; Phone with bluetooth earpiece Camera and Camcorder Video and Music player QWERTY and soft keyboard Room for thousands of contacts and voice dialing for all of them A medium to large screen / colour / That's all so far; but I definitely want to hear about any neat features I don't know about. I think the trick is going to be to find a Phone AND GSM AND GPS... I also would like to know if the Canadian cell phone companies would let me use any phone I want, or do I have to buy it from them? I've heard of unlocked phones and do they cost more? Thanks Please feel free to send URL's |

It's a phone PPC. Has GPS, GSM, wifi, bluetooth, camera/camcorder, can play music and video just fine, querty thumbboard and and onscreen keyboard, and a decent sized screen. And it seems way faster than my old h5555, eventhough it has a slower processor. Mine works with cingular. You can get it unlocked off Ebay so it will work on just about any network with that proticol. All in all, the best phone I have ever owned. http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/h...FA637A%2523ABA Ryan |

| Re: Advice on Pocket PC / Smartphone alternatives Thanks ! Theres an HP iPAQ 6945 that has just about everything. I wonder how it compares to the popular Blackberry... William wrote: > Trizi wrote: > > I am writing from Toronto, Canada > > Take a look at http://www.expansys.ca/ > > -- > WH |

| Re: Advice on Pocket PC / Smartphone alternatives Thanks for your input. I ended up reading a lot of reviews and getting the iPAQ 6955 (6900 series) which has built on the model you told me about. I really like it. The only thing is I think you have to buy additional software to voice dial phone numbers (I haven't registered yet with a GSM provider so I'll wait to test this) and the Microsoft Streetmaps is pretty basic. It connects to satellites that just tell you where you are, no instructions; etc. What are you using for these two things?
