ANN: Review of PhatPad 4.0 Available

Today Clinton Fitch (Dot) Com! has released our first review of 2007!
The review covers the latest release of PhatWare's award winning
PhatPad application, version 4.0.

There are many professions today in which note taking is not just
about words but about gathering concepts and ideas. *Some of these
concepts and ideas are best drawn out instead of written down which,
until a few years ago, required pen and paper in addition to ones
Pocket PC. That was when PhatWare Corporation released PhatPad, a note
taking application that allowed users to draw diagrams and take notes
in handwriting, allowing users to keep all of their information in one
place: *Their Windows Mobile device.

With the release of the 4 version of PhatPad, PhatWare has taken this
already outstanding application and made it even more of a must have
application of Windows Mobile owners. *With some enhancements and
further integration into PhatWare's CalliGrapher handwriting
recognition application, this new version builds on the solid
foundation of PhatPad 4.0 by improving the performance of the
application, use of the new and improved Digital Ink engine found in
CalliGrapher, typed text now can be mixed with handwritten information
which can be edited and document templates. It is a true upgrade to
this award winning application and one that existing owners should
have no second-thoughts about upgrading to. For those new to PhatPad,
today is the day to start using it on your device or desktop!

Clinton,

I love PhatNotes and have been using it every since I've owned a Pocket
PC (my first was an H1910 and the program was called HPC Notes).

I've looked at every iteration of PhatPad and have never bought it
because other than the ability to draw and do handwritten notes, I never
saw any real advantage to it over PhatNotes. BUT it does seem to me that
if you started with PhatPad, you probably wouldn't need PhatNotes.

Is there any reason you can see why anyone would want to have BOTH? For
the extremely rare times I need to do a drawing, I just fire up the
built in Notes application. The rest of the time I use PhatNotes.

Just curious as to whether you see any advantage in owning both programs.

Don

Now if only Phatpad would sync up with OneNote on the desktop... from a
storage card, nonetheless. ;)

Re: ANN: Review of PhatPad 4.0 Available

Don,

It really depends on how you use your device to be honest.

I am an engineering manager in my "day job". That means that either
A) I'm on the phone taking notes, B) in a meeting taking notes C)
drawing a customer or fellow engineer a diagram of something or D) a
combination of A/B and C! :-)

I do use PhatNotes as my primary note taking application both on my
WinMo device and on my PC. It just works and I love it. But, when it
comes to drawing those diagrams, nothing I've found works as well as
PhatPad does on either platform either. In my case I *need* both
applications to be more productive. Plus, with PhatNotes and PhatPad
installed, I can attached a PhatNotes file to a PhatPad file then send
it to someone as one converted document (JPEG usually). Works
fantastically well.

So I do think it comes down to what you need and how you use your
device. For some there is no question the combination of the
applications make a powerful suite. For others, it may not be so
powerful as they my simply not use one of the applications.

I hope this helps a bit.

I agree it would be nice! :-)

Have you put that in their suggestion box? You can send an email to

Thanks, Clinton. That pretty much confirms my thoughts on its utility
for me. I just don't have a real need for it.

Kinda too bad because it's such a neat little tonkle!

Don,

It is a good bit of code. If you haven't done so, download the trial
of it and see what you think. It could prove to be of use to you even
if it may not seem that way now.
