| Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle I've had this unit for about two years and it's been great...until now. It will not connect with the PC when put into the cradle unless it is jiggled just right. I bought a new cradle and it doen't so any better. Any thoughts? Thanks, OZ |

| Re: Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle Let me try to restate what you're saying and see if I'm understanding you. The device *will* connect and work with the connection between cradle and your PC if you jiggle *the device*(?) That sounds like the Pocket PC-to-cradle connector on the device is intermittent. Seems to have nothing to do with ActiveSync... Broken hardware would be a problem to talk to Dell about. Paul T. | Re: Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle Actually since the OP mentioned he has had the unit for two years, it might be something to talk to PocketPCTechs about. -- Sven MVP - Mobile Devices "Paul G. | Re: Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle Thanks for the replies. I think it's defineitly in the connection port on the Axim itself since it still happens wihth the new cradle. | Re: Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle I have the same problem and I also believe that it is due to the fact that I use it in the horizontal position for my GPS. I can not figure out how to open up the Axim X50V (mine is also out of warranty). What I have done is played with the connector from the outside (not the strip pins) and moved it slightly. It seems to have helped. If you can figure out a better solution, please let me know. -- Neil "oz" <ojznews@bellsouth.net> wrote in message news:Rbuoh.20576$_X.14034@bigfe9... > Thanks for the replies. > > I think it's defineitly in the connection port on the Axim itself since it > still happens wihth the new cradle. > > Can this part be replaced? > > -OZ > > > > > "Schrodinger's cat" <martin@scotland.org> wrote in message > news:459ad75d$0$2678$c3e8da3@news.astraweb.com... >> >> "oz" <ojzmail@bellsouth.net> wrote in message >> news:n3zmh.38865$3v6.24558@bignews8.bellsouth.net. .. >>> I've had this unit for about two years and it's been great...until now. >>> >>> It will not connect with the PC when put into the cradle unless it is >>> jiggled just right. | Re: Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle Sure, it's just a component. I can't tell you how to do it, though, or even what part number the connector is to buy a replacement. If the device is worth spending that amount of time and effort to keep, have Dell fix it. At least you'll know that they'll put the right part in there and do a good job of soldering it. Paul T. | Re: Dell Axim x50v won't connect in cradle Thanks for the response. Since my last posting, I have done a lot more research and determined that the solution is not just opening it up and repositioning the connector. As you indicated, the problem seems to be pretty common and the solution is to resolder the connector to the motherboard. This kind of job is above my abilities. I have found 2 companies that will do the work: PocketPCTechs.com and ips@chartermi.net If anyone has experience with these companies, I would appreciate the feedback. Also, if anyone has another company to suggest that repairs these units I would also like that information. -- Neil "Paul G.
