Is it possible to add external Bluetooth module to PDA?

My HP iPaq 1955 has only WiFi, while I need Bluetooth also. I wonder if
there are any adaptors can add Bluetooth to it. I didn't see any such
products with mini USB port.

If you have a compact flash slot you could get a compact flash bluetooth
adaptor.
Something like this http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=124932

Obviously that is an expensive one, but it just gives you an idea of what to
look for.

There are. That having been said though some devices have
limited SD card slots. They're not full SD slots.

the older devices have limited SD slots, but all the new ones have SD slots
that are SDIO enabled.

in what way was it limited? IT should be able to take a SDIO card such as
Wifi or bluetooth.

Seem to remember that the 1955 needed an os patch to deal with an sdio
wifi issue, so, would assume that it will need the same for bt... check
the sandisk site for "compatibility" as that is where I saw the specific
patch information.

Re: Is it possible to add external Bluetooth module to PDA?

As Laura has pointed out, you can use any WM5-compliant (!) SDIO BT cards
with your device. The rx1950 has no problems withg SDIO cards, unlike with
some VERY old (back in 2001-2002) models (iPAQ 38xx, Dell Axim x5, iPAQ 1910
etc.), which didn't have SDIO support. All current devices have.

Thanks all you guys.
If I have to use my SD slot for bluetooth, it means I cannot use the SD
slot for storage.
I need BT because I have a BT GPS. You know a very large storage is
necessary for GPS software/maps.

Thanks... would help the old folk if the "RX" is included to separate it
from the original Ipaq 19xx series ;-)

I use a Socket cf BT card successfully on my Toshiba E800 to talk to my GPS.
It is only a 1.1 device and the Drakar stack is pretty anaemic. Don't get a
bunch of ideas about stereo headsets or HID support with this device
although I understand it supports some phones. Works great with my Garmin
GPS10 though; very reliable.
Also, BT 1.1 devices can have problems with wifi.
From what I can see, Bluetooth cards are not common in cf or SD format. I do
have a Toshiba BT3 SD card but haven't seen a lot for sale. Toshiba quit
making them several years ago.
