| Voice Command 1.6 is it worth it? I have been using the VC version 1.5 and so far I'm happy with it, in other postings someone wrote the path to the key registry to hack the free hand button that activates the VC via Bluetooth. If this is available in the new version, where can I get a upgrade for the download? and also is there a charge for it? TIA A|B |

| Re: Voice Command 1.6 is it worth it? I think the upgrade is worth it. Unfortunately it seems difficult to get an upgrade, unless you purchased the original from Handango. The benefit, at least in my mind, is that 1.6 officially supports BT. That is not just words and a seal. The original didn't allow setup of headset activation partly because the BT audio quality is (was) insufficient to ensure reliable recognition. The BT hasn't changed, but MS has done a lot in software to try to overcome the limitations of the BT quality. I find it works quite well. You do get options to define how you want your system to process it's output as well. You can have it sent to the regular speaker, or only to BT, or to BT if there is one. A couple of caveats. Doesn't seem that every Headset/PPC/SP combo works. I still had to apply the hack on my K-Jam, but only to launch VC from the headset. Lastly, this does not allow routing of all audio to the headset, it allows VC interaction. You can press the BT headset and VC listens for a command and responds. If you command it to play music though, it will play the music over your speakers...unless you also have an A2DP capable headset connected via a separate BT profile. -- Sven MVP - Mobile Devices "A|B" <spamsome1@else.net> wrote in message news:1ujk39u3vzmtv$.19og1d3ztaqa4$.dlg@40tude.net. .. >I have been using the VC version 1.5 and so far I'm happy with it, in other > postings someone wrote the path to the key registry to hack the free hand > button that activates the VC via Bluetooth. All it does is gives you another button to activate voice command with and it does not listen through the bluetooth - yon are just speaking to the PDA still. Plus on my Treo 700w it disabled the blvetooth indicator so it did not change color when blvetooth was active. I reset my device & took it all the way off. svennw |

Yeah, for some reason it the website does not recognize the email that I used to purchased with, therefore it gives me a "not available for you" until last night, but for a $10.00 dlls! upgrade jacking the total price to 50.00 to me it seems a bit steep... > The benefit, at least in my mind, is that 1.6 officially supports BT. My ver. 1.5 allows to answer calls using the answer button on the my ear piece Jabra Discovery 640, that btw works great! > > A couple of caveats. Doesn't seem that every Headset/PPC/SP combo works. Same here, that hack is useful! just to be able to active VC thru BT > Lastly, this does not allow routing of all audio to the headset, it > allows VC interaction. | Re: Voice Command 1.6 is it worth it? Like I said, it doesn't seem to work on every combination. On two of mine it absolutely does listen over the BT. I find it difficult to believe that the microphone on my PPC is picking up my voice when the PPC is in the saddle bag on my motorcycle and I have a helmet on, riding 45 mph. In case there is some interest in this, I'm using a Scala Rider. Has a big enough button to use with gloves on. The boom mic and the noise cancellation seems to work quite well, or so those I talk to say. It also dynamically adjusts the volume for ambient noise, so you don't need to mess with it. I don't spend much time on it, but it is nice to have the caller announced in my ear so I can choose to take it or not. I can also tap the button and ask the time if I want. Voice dialing works over the system too. -- Sven MVP - Mobile Devices "Stivo" <svennw******.com> wrote in message news:1165556410.267240.74300@j72g2000cwa.googlegro ups.com... > > Absolute waste. I have a Cingular 8525, and I'm using an old Motorola HS810 headset (3 years old at least!). I don't get playback through the BT with my VC 1.6, so I'm thinking about upgrading my headset. Looking for a good workable option to go with my Cingular 8525. Thanks! Chester |
