reset everything

Hi,
I want to sell my pocket pc at ebay.
Now I´m trying to delete all my data on it.
Everything is kept even if I try a hard reset.
Is there an easy way to restore the factory settings.
Thanks
Daniel

Re: reset everything

Well it would be most helpful to know what device you have, I am guessing
based on what you posted that you have a WM5 device. If so you can try this
"Clean Reset"

A clean reset clears all user-installed settings, programs, and data, and it
restores your HP iPAQ to factory settings. If you perform a clean reset,
your HP iPAQ loses all data, including data in Persistent Store.

To perform a clean reset and return your HP iPAQ to factory settings:

1*. Press and hold the Calendar, Power, and Messaging buttons.
2**. While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the
Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ until the device
restarts.
3. When the HP iPAQ restarts, release all of the buttons, and then remove
the stylus from the Reset button.
The HP iPAQ restarts and powers on.

Re: reset everything

Hi David,

thanks for the answer. Unfortunately I do not have an HP IPAQ.
I have a MEDION 96700 PNA-Device.
It seems to me, that the clean reset is a vendor specific feature and
that it is not implemented in Pocket PC 2005 in a standard way.

Does anybody know, how to trigger a clean reset on my MEDION device?

Thanks

Daniel

Everything? Then you aren't doing it correctly!

If you've correctly initiated a hard-reset (with the right keypress
combination, which is usually holding down a couple of specific keys
simultaneously while poking the soft-reset button) the device should then
prompt you to press a certain key to erase all data or a different keyto
cancel the operation. It's an intentionally cumbersome operation to
prevent you from triggering it by accident.

Yes- an actual hard-reset! ;-) Post what model it is and someone here
might recall how to do it off the top of their heads if a Google search
doesn't tell you how...

Re: reset everything

Is there a BIOS upgrade available from the manufacturer? I believe pushing
that out to the unit should wipe it. And yes, I think that the "hard-hard"
reset is vendor specific. Do you have your manual still? Is that available
on-line?

Re: reset everything

I think I have found it in the manual (germany only - sorry) but there
it is called hard reset instead of clean reset:

Hard-Reset
6. Legen Sie den Akku wieder ein. Nun können Sie die Aufnahmetaste
wieder loslassen und die Abdeckung wieder
aufsetzen.
7. Nach einem Hard-Reset muss die Ersteinrichtung erneut
durchgeführt werden.
