| Re: CNN on HTC 8125? In general CNN on a ppc is not worth the agony as they use huge amounts of java and other extensions as well as assume a large screen. There are a large number of mobile friendly news pages such as http://msnbc.com (auto detects ppc's) http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/raw for starters Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

The address is mobile.cnn.com, but I find that it won't let me load it unless I'm using cellular data- if I try via Wi-Fi I get the error message "Forbidden. Your client is not allowed to access the requested object." Works fine w/my T-Mobile EDGE connection however. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Trying to sneak into their xml page from my T- Mobile MDA via Wi-Fi, I received a different error message: "We're sorry but CNN Wireless content is restricted. You may be attempting to access us from an unauthorized mobile service provider, or it could be that your service provider is authorized but has failed to register a new gateway IP with us. In either case please contact your mobile service provider for more information. We regret the inconvenience." Apparently they don't "regret the inconvenience" enough to let anyone in! ;-) According to the "real" CNN website, however, their mobile service is available from every major carrier in the US (Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint/Nextel) as well as Telus in Canada and TelCel in Mexico. I assume the OP has Cingular (since he has an 8125) so he should be able to access mobile.cnn.com as long as he Connects over GPRS/EDGE rathe than Wi-Fi. That "marketing strategy" p*sses me off though- I prefer to use mobile versions of sites on my PPC even when bandwidth isn't an issue (like over home Wi-Fi)- mobile sites generally give you the "steak instead of the sizzle" and look a lot better on a PDA screen. Personally, I think I'll stick with Bev's advice and get my "mobile news" elsewhere... -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
