O2 Xda Atom Wireless card (Wlan module) won't turn on !!!!

Greetings to all
In the O2 wireless manager, everything turns on and off just fine
(GPRS/BLUETOOTH/PHONE RADIO) but the Wifi (Wireless Lan) is simply
dead..... Sometimes when I click it , it process something but does not
turn itself on.... other times it simply won't do nothing... not even a
blip...
I did run diagnostic toll ... sometimes the wireless adapter pass
sometimes don't ... some times the mac address presented is all zeros ,
sometimes it is presented correctly
In a thread on XDA Developers ATOM Wiki page , they say the adapter is
made by ALPS probably a UGGZ3 Series...
I was thinking about uninstall the adapter and try to reinstall it
again but I can not find the proper driver anywhere on the web ... nor
O2 website....
And I am a looooong way from any O2 service dealer....

Any help would be most appreciated and welcome.

Regards to all

Alex

Re: O2 Xda Atom Wireless card (Wlan module) won't turn on !!!!

Alex,

I have an Atom as well but haven't had any issues like this on mine.
Have you done a hard-reset of the device to see if resolves the issue?
It could be that something software wise is preventing it from
starting. If a hard-reset doesn't do the trick, it may be service
time.

Re: O2 Xda Atom Wireless card (Wlan module) won't turn on !!!!

Sorry I haven't had an Atom to play with. But many HP Pocket PCs have the
same symptom as your Atom. Often this can be fixed with, a soft reset, or
removing the battery for 20 seconds on those units with removable batteries.
Sometimes a hard reset is required and then reinstalling your programs, not
restoring. As the drivers are in the ROM of the Atom, a hard reset would be
the equivalent of reloading new drivers in the Atom. It's possible that a
setting in the registry has become corrupt.

Re: O2 Xda Atom Wireless card (Wlan module) won't turn on !!!!

Hi Clinton

About the the hard-reset ... done it several times.... and ROM upgrade
as well with no improvement on both scenarios.
That's what I was afraid ...I'm in Brazil and there is no service
dealer in the hole south america ... I'll have to ship "my precious"
abroad ....
Thanks for the feedback tough.

Regards

Re: O2 Xda Atom Wireless card (Wlan module) won't turn on !!!!

Hi David

I'll try removing the battery but regarding soft and hard reset , I've
tried both with no success
I'm almost desperate enough to try downgrade the ROM if nothing else
works...

Alex

I'm using 20060426B1WWE and don't have any problems. Did you upgrade
the ROM or did the device come with that ROM image?

If you upgraded, did the problems start after it?

I actually own a ATOM (not EXEC) but using a Modded ATOM EXEC ROM found
on the XDA Developers Forum because none of the previous regular ATOM
ROM upgrades did any good to the problem a I ran out off ideas ... it
was my last resource (kinda...)

Doing it right now .... the problem is brutal shipping costs to
europe/asia .... As far as a know there isn't O2 service dealers in
North America ... Am I wrong ?
Do you or anybody know any repair shop which does this kind of repair
in north america ?
That would help a lot ....

SInce O2 doesn't sell in North America I doubt it.

Just an FYI - using a hacked ROM on a non-intended device is illegal
and may have voided your warranty as well. I don't know if O2 will be
able to determine that you did this but if they can, they may not
repair it for free.

and I tried everything I could do to avoid sending it to service ....
due previously mentioned problems.
Thanks anyway for the feedback ... hope to help here sometime in the
future.
