| PDA/tablet with most sensitive touch screen (like old Win CE soft screens) >From what I have seen older "soft" PDA screen types (like Cassiopeia E-100/105 and NEC MobilePro 770, both ran Win CE 2.11) are more sensitive than the newer "hard" PDA screens (like the iPAQs). This makes a big difference for applications like drawing. The only drawback is they had bad visibility in daylight. Do any current PDAs (or tablet PCs) have comparable touch screens to the old soft screens? |

Do any current PDAs (or tablet > PCs) have comparable touch screens to the old soft screens? > Most of them do... you can adjust the screen pressure accordingly via the registry. My PPC-6700 was too non-sensitive for my liking at first, but now it feels more like the older ppcs of which I was fond. (Also it might be good to note that I like incrasing the size of the vertical scroll for easier pen interaction as well, but I digress). If you re curious, here is the info pretty much as found. (For reference, my initial value was 7332). Use at your own risk, etc. but I personally like the results - for example on the ppc6700 the onscreen keyboard would not always get the first hit until I did this: ******************************* Minimize Pressure when Tapping the screen Ever got used to tapping without screen protectors and suddenly you put some screen protector and have a pecuilar feeling (some-what like tapping harder than u normally do) due to the increase thickness of the protector? Well i have gone to that and finally ive done some simple tweaks to my xda mini. I also figure out this could lessen normal wear and tear(scratching of protectors/PDA screens) since lesser pressure is applied to Tap the screen here's what i did.. thru the PHM registry editor(or any PPC registry editor) go to.. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Drivers\Touch or find 'Threshold' Change the value of Pressure Threshold.(INCREASE value ONLY!!!) what i did is set the value at 11880. i tried doubling the default value. until i have reached my desired setting. now,its like tapping soflty without having a feeling that i have screen protector. Also less stress on the stylus and screen and faster tapping.:-) WARNING: Only INCREASE THE VALUE BUT NEVER THE DECREASE THE DEFAULT VALUE. Lowering the value of Pressure Threshold means you need to apply more pressure in tapping than you normally do. ive tried this and when i soft reset, the screen won't react even if i apply deep pressure in tapping so i needed to do a HARD Reset!!! So don't ever think of lowering the value, JUST INCREASE but NEVER LOWER!! |

About halfway down the hall, I started hearing this woman's voice talking and looked around, thinking I'd gotten lucky because I live alone! The Axis wasn't locked and had bumped my shirt, booting TCPMP and clicking Play, which just happened to be looking at KPIG's 128Kbps MP3 stream from California. The woman was the DJ announcing some craziness KPIG is famous for. Darn.....I wasn't lucky, after all....(snif) Is that sensitive enough touchscreen for ya?....(c; |

I didn't know there was this distinction, but my Pocket Loox N500, bought new this Summer and running WM5.0, seems to have a soft overlay just in front of the solid surface, and certainly is difficult to read in sunlight. Don't know how the sensivity compares because haven't tried others. Mike. -- |

| Re: PDA/tablet with most sensitive touch screen (like old Win CE soft screens) So, if this value does not exist (hX2750), is it OK to create it? Anyone tried? I really don't have the time to mess with a hard reset/restore right now... That is, do you not have a threshold key at all? It is possible that some digitizers are not adjustable, and the inclusion of a key/value pair would perhaps be of no consequence. As the quote shows, do not drop the value, and if you were so inclined to try creating a key I would think that a large initial value is much preferrable over a small one (the result is that you would put the sensitivity out of range, forcing a hard reset and/or the use of a keyboard to restore touch operation). So... >I really don't have the time to mess with a hard >reset/restore right now... That sums it up. Without the key in place to start with (and having an initial value as it applies to said hardware ) I would put experimentation in the "hard reset" category. ;) |

| Re: PDA/tablet with most sensitive touch screen (like old Win CE soft screens) OK, xT. I'll just live without for now. BTW, my e750 doesn't have it either... I may try it sometime by adding the key, but to a PPC I don't need to use every day.
