I'm using 4.5 and would never go back to 4.1. It's much smoother and faster on my machine. Tom Lake |

| Re: Latest ActiveSynch beta I'm assuming you are referring to ActiveSync 4.5 in public beta? Yes, I've been using it for a couple of months now and it seems to work quiet well. Remember though, it is still technically beta so be sure you have a good backup - never hurts! :-) Clinton Fitch, MVP-Mobile Devices Clinton Fitch (Dot) Com! http://www.clintonfitch.com On Fri, 27 Oct 2006 17:53:27 GMT, "StevePlym" <steveplym@tesco.net> wrote: >Has anyone had opportunity to play with the new ActiveSynch? > >Comments from anyone? > > >Steve > |

| Re: Latest ActiveSynch beta You mean backup under WM5? As has been pinted out in my Backup Bible, nope. I too have been thinking of giving AS 4.5beta a try but was concerned about what features would not yet be implemented and how robust it was. From what I have read it seems to be fairly robust provided it is installed on both ends of the AS connection. The loss of AS-based backup / restore seems to be the only feature lost in this Beta. My Axim X51v has backup software in Programs so this shortfall in AS is not a major problem. Performance-wise I have read that it is supposed to be faster - always a plus. Anyone have any idea then they expect to release it? Best Regards Wayne Moses <wmoses@houston.rr.com> Sat, 28 Oct 2006 09:30:45 -0500 === Posted with Qusnetsoft NewsReader 3.3 |

It's because you have a WM5 device; with pre-WM5 devices, it does support backing up. Also see the Backup Bible for more info on all these question - or a recent thread in here. Well I tried the Beta version far about 5 minutes (that is as long as I tend to give most software that turns out to be duds) and uninstalled it. Turns out it is more hassle than it is worth. It refused to acknowledge the existing partnership and wanted to set up a new partnership. Then I needed to open ports on my McAfee Personal Firewall and even then there were issues. At that point I lost all confidence in it and fired it off my machine. I am now safely back using 4.2. There was a time in a previous life when I would have spent more time on it and would have got it to work but now I am more interested in stability and getting the technology to do what I want in as little time as possible.
