random hard reset of iPaq hx2470

I seem to be having, more and more often, a problem with my iPaq doing a hard
reset on it's own. Sometimes the device gets locked up, and I try to do a
soft reset, but it does a hard reset, and other times it's just doing it on
it's own after locking up while doing something else. Most of the time it's
been during a file transfer, either from SD card to main memory or to the
iPaq filestore, or from the PC to the iPaq using ActiveSync/Explorer. This
is really frustrating, as it usually happens on a weekend when I don't have
all my files to re-synchronize with it, since it's my work device. Lately, I
have been hearing a small, sharp, snap noise just before it resets, as though
there is some kind of short in it, but I can't see any reason for that kind
of hardware problem with it, as there is no damage to the unit at all. I am
running Pocket PC 2003SE, and have ActiveSync 4.2.

As a second problem, I have been having trouble when I have the device in
the cradle, and reboot the PC, running XP, it gives the BSOD with a physical
memory dump almost immediately on trying to synchronize the device. Any
ideas would be helpful.
Thanks,

Re: random hard reset of iPaq hx2470

After a hard reset, install one application a day until the problem arises
then try installing all but that program. if the problem reappears send the
unit back (I think you'll need to anyway),bluescreens take a fairly hefty
effort to produce these days.

Trying to find a 1st world answer to a 3rd world problem aint easy.
Trying to find a 3rd world answer to a 1st world problem isn't a walk in the
park either.

Re: random hard reset of iPaq hx2470

It doesn't appear to be application based. I have tried your solution, but
different programs were last installed when the problems occur. Some of my
coworkers think it has to do with the security on the system, since I have
the fingerprint reader enabled, though not required. I am now trying to use
the device without the security features enabled, and, so far (which is only
a day), it's been fine. This problem, though has been sporadic, to say the
least. it may work fine for several days to several weeks before it hard
resets itself, but then it may do it 2 or 3 times in a really short amount of
time, then it works fine again for a long time. This is really frustrating,
though, since it usually happens when I can't re-synchronize to get my data
and applications back.
