Best (free) utility to copy files to sd card in ppc?

I got a 4gb sd card. I got it cheap. I've already become disgusted with
trying to load programs to it, because my ppc has syching issues I'm
trying to work through. So... if I can't run tetris from it, maybe I
can at least copy my Red Hot Chili Pepper collection to it. Any
suggestions on a free utility I can make a list of what I want copied
to the ppc, and then copy it?

The answer will depend on the encryption (drm) on the content... if the
content is unprotected (i.e. you ripped them from your cd's) all you
need is to get a $10-$15 usb memory card reader and copy (using file
explorer) or sync them directly to the card using wmp... for more
ramblings on this, take a look at http://BevHoward.com/itsnotapod.htm

If the content is protected, I really have no solutions.

My experience with copying largish amounts of data to a PPC using Active
Synch has not been very good. So I bought a USB card reader. You should be
able to get one for under USD 20.

And yes, I know it is not free - but it works!

Also, with respect to installing "programs" see
http://BevHoward.com/bhhpj.htm#Cabs for options on installing them
without the need for activesync.

Re: Best (free) utility to copy files to sd card in ppc?

I've noticed that if one is attempting to copy a large number of files you
need a lot of free space, on both the PC and the Pocket PC. Free space can
be a problem especially on new Pocket PCs with less than 128 MB of RAM. You
can try copying to your My Documents folder with ActiveSync and then moving
to your SD card with pocket file explorer. Also cheap SD cards are generally
cheap for a reason, often because they are slow. Having a large number of
files in the root folder of a SD card can cause your Pocket PC appear to
lock up as the file system will attempt to read the contents of the SD card
every so often. This can make the Pocket PC appear to be locked up.

Re: Best (free) utility to copy files to sd card in ppc?

Try mobsync, you can copy your tunes to a folder on the pc point to a folder
on the card and let it sync. From there you can change your music whenever
you need to and sync. It won't be fast but it is automatic.
For the first time copying 2G worth of songs over a card reader would be
recommended unless you have all day.
It's the best thing I have seen for keeping navigation data updated across
multiple units.

On another note your hearing must be fairly bad, the only good Red Hot
Chilli Pepper is the one on my sandwich, I truly miss Subway.

I am thinking of releasing an album of Red Hot Chilli Pepper clone music
(The government here it has decided not to enforce copyright laws unless it
is physically harming someone), would you be interested in purchasing a
copy. Now all I have to do is find 14 ferrets, 8 rats, 3 Persian cats and a
blind Doberman to lock in a tin shed so I can record it. Hopefully they will
have enough stamina to last for 23 minutes to make an album.
