| No Internet Connection Sharing in Programs? My boss just upgraded me to Windows Mobile 6, and I am trying to hook this up to my Macbook via Bluetooth. I go under Programs and there is no Internet connection sharing. Do I have to install it? |

Internet Sharing, I believe, is an optional component that OEMs or mobile operators can leave off (presumably to prohibit tethering.) Some replace it with their own solution or add to it. (AT&T, for example, includes both IS and an HTC substitute called "WModem" with the Tilt.) I don't believe there's an official (legal) way to obtain IS separately, but June Fabrics makes a commercial program called PDANet to accomplish this. It works with Macs over BT, but not USB. You can check it out here: http://junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php |

It's disheartening to see Verizon tries to cripple their high-end phones just like their low-end. *Sigh* > I just tried downloading that EXE and it says its not a valid Win > mobile executable. That's a desktop executable. You download it onto your PC, plug in the 6800, then run the .exe on the desktop and the program "syncs" into the mobile. There are two primary ways for developers to distribute WinMo programs- .exe installl files that you install on your PC, (like PDANet) or .cab installers designed to be executed directly on the device. Each has it's advantages- .cabs don't require a PC to be involved, which is nice, but desktop .exe installers are stored by Activesync (or WinMo Device Center in Vista), so reinstalling all of your programs on your next device (or this one if you ever restore it to factory settings, like after a ROM upgrade) is essentially a one-step process- you connect the device, click "add/remove programs" in Activesync or WMDC on the PC, then tick the checkbox of every program you want to install on the device. |

| Re: No Internet Connection Sharing in Programs? Not clear if you want to share the mac's internet connection or the phone's internet connection. If the latter, Ed Hansberry discovered that the phone had the ability to provide it, but not sure about the transport... i.e. bluetooth, wifi, etc. Beverly Howard [Microsoft MVP-Mobile Devices] |

There are no Mac Drivers for the VX whatever. Is there something free I can run on the phone? |

While I have the utmost respect for Bev and his excellent advice, this plan isn't going to work unless the Internet Sharing app is installed on the device. Bev is assuming, perhaps very correctly, that the app is there, but the mobile phone company chose to "hide" it by leaving the shortcut off the Programs menu. If so, there's an easier way to create the shortcut without involving the PC. Navigate to the \Windows folder on the device with Pocket Explorer, ensure "Show All Files" is selected in Explorer (by tapping "Menu" and making sure the checkmark next to Show All Files is visible, otherwise, select it) and scroll to "IntShrUI" if there. (If it's not there, this plan isn't going to work anyway!) Tap and hold, select, "Copy", navigate to the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder, tap and hold on a blank space at the bottom of the file list, tap and hold and select "paste shortcut." At this point, the shortcut will be created, with the akward name of "Shortcut to IntShrUI"- you can tap and hold on the shortcut, select rename, and rename it "Internet Sharing," "ICS" or whatever you like. (Reportedly, the WinMo guys were going to name it "Internet Connection Sharing" just like the desktop equivalent, but it was too long to display nicely in the WinMo UI, so "Connection" was dropped...) Good luck! |

I now have IntShrUI. Let's now dwell on the "how" I guess I need my account information. I'll figure that out later. But here's what I get so far. http://img243.imageshack.us/my.php?i...4mediumwy6.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/my.php?i...5mediumqc0.jpg The reason I'm doing this via Bluetooth is the fact there are no Mac drivers for this phone. Despite the fact Mac OS is no longer a proprietary OS, there's no reason not to have OSX drivers. Bottom line, I have the magic Internet connection sharing app on my VX. |
