| Reading email via VPN and wifi works but not via GPRS Dear all, I have set up my WM6 with an e-mail account which accesses a server at my work. I need a VPN to get this working. I have set-up the connections as follows: Under Connections-My ISP I have set a modem connection with my phone provider Under My-Work Network I have set a connection to my vpn server at work. Under Advanced-Select Networks I have selected My ISP for programs that automatically connect to the Internet and programs that connect to a private network should connect to My-Work Network. Under the email account settings I have selected under advanced server settings that the Work network connection should be used. If I connect my device (X800 glofiis) via wifi at home, I can properly use my e-mail account, so all VPN settings must be correct. If I drop the wifi and work via the phone service and then access the same e-mail account, it will even set-up the VPN correctly but then get back to me with "messages cannot be downloaded...etc", which explains very little to me. I have tried many different configurations, but without success. Any hints ? Thanks Martien |

| Re: Reading email via VPN and wifi works but not via GPRS I've run into issues where either the GRPS account wasn't allowed vpn access or the subnet of the vpn and the carrier overlap. I am trying to dig out if VPN is really not possible with my carrier. I have read some confusing messages at their site. The curiosity is of course, that I can set up the VPN line to my work via the phone, only when I want to get my messages (or look at some file shares) I am not able to get any proper results. I have tried the VxUtil suggested by Eric and it gives indeed quite some useful info. Thanks for the hint. My work network uses 10.0.0.x as IP numbers and I can see that my PDA gets the IP number 10.0.0.41, so this is good. Next I can also ping to the VPN server at 10.0.0.1 (I sometimes get some time outs but it generally works). Also the DNS lookup seems to work as I can ping to the VPN server name as well as a separate file server name. So far so good. When I look at the cellular line, I see that its IP address is 10.79.100.75 (and I have a cellular line 2 with IP address 10.66.172.69, I don't know why there are two of them but OK). Since these adresses seem also to be within the 10.0.0.0 range, could this be the overlap Eric is mentioning ? If so, is there any remedy other than placing the network at work at a different IP range ? Thanks, Martien |
