| Latest version of PPC2002 I have an iPaq 3670. Currently hadan installation problem with Odyssey Nav program. Vendor said to check I had latest version of PPC2002. I checked and it says 3.0.11171 build 11178. I saw a later release 4.0, but this does not show up when I go to HPs site and look for updates for the 3670. Is there a later release that will work with an iPaq 3670? Graham |

But neither specifies just what they are selling. Maybe it is an upgrade from PPC2000 for which you do need a CD or equivalent. But, "updates" for PPC2002 are free and are available to download from HP, so no need to pay an eBayer. What I am trying to find out, is if the release 4.0 is applicable to the 3670 or if release 3.0 was the last one for the 3670. HP do not list 4.0 as one of the downloads. Maybe they have just given up updating their site though. I have already dowloaded 4.0 - just don't want to install if it will do no good (because that would mean re-installing all other programs too!) Graham |

| Re: Latest version of PPC2002 I think that Windows CE 4.0 would be PPC2003, not an update for PPC2002. According to http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61949 HP did not release an upgrade to PPC2003 for the iPaq 3670 Cheers - rick "Graham" <XXXX@sympatico.ca> wrote in message news:%23VUFEqfkIHA.484@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > "xTenn" <xTennRemoveThisPart@tds.net> wrote > >> "Graham" <XXXX@sympatico.ca> wrote >> >I have an iPaq 3670. I realise that PPC2003 is definitely not an option on a 3670. The PPC2002 upgrade I have installed at present, is EUU3, but there is also EUU4 that MS issued to PDA vendors. But HP don't have this as an option for the 3670, only for 39xx series iPaqs. I don't really want to upgrade the ROM, but it seems that the software I am trying to install (Odyssey Nav) does not recognize the iPaq 3670, even although the program is designed to work on PPC2002 pdas. It seems that Odyssey is the only GPS nav program that will work with PPC2002 AND still provide updated mapping. Other vendors like iNav appear to have abandoned those of us with older hardware. Unless I can find software that will work with PPC2002, iPaq 3670 version, I guess I am out of luck. I had hoped EUU4 might help, but it seems that it will not. Graham |

It may have been a ROM constraint. All EUU's are ROM updates and the 3600 only came with 16MB of ROM. After they shoehorned Pocket PC 2002 in there, and still had enough room for EUU3, it is possible EUU4 just had too much data to fit. -- __________________________________________________ ________________________________ Ed Hansberry (Please do *NOT* email me. I just looked at what was in EUU4. A new today theme and WMP was upgraded to 8.5. I strongly suspect that there both wasn't enough room *and* HP wouldn't have wanted to properly test to release the EUU for the 3600 given it was out of date at the time. -- __________________________________________________ ________________________________ Ed Hansberry (Please do *NOT* email me. As I understand it, if HP don't implement the upgrade then it cannot/should not be done? You might be right about the ROM - The 3900 series has 48MB. BUT, I came across this post where someone installed it on a 3700 series iPaq and it worked. http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=191413 Interstingly, EUU3 does install on the 3670 but it does not install WMP8.5 because of lack of ROM. Maybe something similar happens with EUU4 and only system is updated? So, suppose I try this after backing up to CF card with Sprite. What would worst case scenario be. Would it be possible that I would have no way of recovering? Graham |

Worst case, you brick the device and have to send it back to HP for reflashing, and they might not support a 2002 device at all. the 3600 came out in 2000. I don't know any PC manufacturer that would even service a box that old. -- __________________________________________________ ________________________________ Ed Hansberry (Please do *NOT* email me. I don't know any > PC manufacturer that would even service a box that old. > -- Just as well car manufacturers don't think that way - My newest car was built in 1998 and the old one in 1972 and I can still get it serviced and buy parts :) I am not yet ready to give up on my iPaq 3670. It works flawlessly and still has the original battery. The Memplug dual CF sleeve with aux battery gave it a new lease of life and the Haicom HI-305III CF GPS adds yet another slot (SD). So, besides its internal 64MB, I can have a 2+Gig CF and a 2+Gig SD for data while still plugging in a CF card. We use it for auto navigation with iGuidance 2.1 and for marine navigation with Fugawi. It also has a Wifi card which allows us to get email in Starbucks etc when travelling. I sometimes use it for web access - even while anchored out in an idylic Bahamas harbour that happens to have wifi access! It also plays MP3s and we use it like an iPod on long trips in the car. And it will play tunes and navigate simultaneously, which the new all in one GPSs will not. Now, how could I give up on all of that! My only problem right now, is that the iGuidance 2.1 auto nav software maps are no longer being updated and I have not found alternative up-to-date software that will install and run on this old PPC2002 iPaq. Thanks for your input Ed! I won't try the ROM update! Graham |

| Re: Latest version of PPC2002 As far as EUU3 vs. EUU4 is concerned, back in 2002, I've tried a lot of tricks to "hack" even the full (including all the goodies like WMP 8.5 - it was in EUU3 and not in EUU4 that it was provided) EUU3 on my 16M (ALL 36xx-series iPAQ's have 16M ROM; it's the 37xx series that has 32M) ROM 3660. Despite what the page at http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/pocketpc2002sp3.htm states, the *full* EUU3 was NOT intended for full install on iPAQ 36xx devices - let alone EUU4. All in all, don't bother with it - I've tried very hard to do some hacking, without any success. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. The iPaq will probably still be used on our boat and for wifi when travelling witout laptop. Regards Graham |
